Bochet GROUP BREW - Solera Style

The original recipe calls for "burnt" mead. However, I was planning to experiment on some kind of "mix of caramelized honeys". Roasting this one, that one, taste and smell what comes out of it. Then mix, and taste again. Cant wait for the weeked to come :D

Bochet GROUP BREW - Solera Style

I plan on joining this!. Wanted to start it yesterday, but Arpolis gave me the heads up on the Bochet mead thread today and I think that by July 15 (even before!) I'll have my picture here :cross: If I understood right; of every batch, 75% of the honey needs to be caramelized, right?

    Bray's One Month Mead

Well, I made the comment just asking for it. I got a different strain (S-03) not S-33 but I guess experimentation is in order. I was just asking about factibility, not trying to make a BOMM with another stuff, that's why I said it headfirst. Yes I know its worth 6$ a packet, im not being a...

    Medieval Burnt Mead!

Read through the whole 5 years of this thread. Im making this one TODAY. I hope no fire ensues, but if it does, i'll post the story. I laughed a lot with this one, and at the same time I was almost drooling.

    Bray's One Month Mead

I know it wouldn't be a BOMM, but reading this I was tempted to use some Ale yeast. I bought a lot of different yeasts and I really have only used Lager yeast's for beers and champagne ones. I got some Safale Ale lying around. I know Ales are fast finishers; any imput on it?

    "Priming" fermentation?

Hello guys, I'ts been a while since my last post. Only yesterday I could start fermenting stuff again, started a Trójniak. My question goes like this: Could I start fermentation in another batch of mead by taking a sample of a well active fermenting mead and dropping it into a virgin...

My first all-grain homebrew: "Dark stuff"

Well, here is my Dark Skinned beauty. It went along well! Didn't clarify as much as I wanted to, but taste is great. Maybe a touch more of Perle next time. Prost!

First traditional mead / Question on wood infusing

My end product. Now onto aging. Patience is everything now, I guess... Cleared up nicely. Seems cloudy in picture bout you could read through it. Cleared super fast! Bottled and ready to age patiently...

First traditional mead / Question on wood infusing

Well, go figure! Since I had nothing else available, I had to use my chips. Importing oak cubes would have taken me forever so I carefully went with chips. First, I gave em a rolling boil and let them sit in water for at least 6 hours. I heard it help to soften the flavor a little bit while...

    Trouble with twist-cap type bottles

I'll be trying this. Less toxic than phosphoric. I will post results.

    Trouble with twist-cap type bottles

Well no, but a quick google search on Star-San linked me to a couple of acids which compose it. I guess the thing that strips off the paint is phosphoric acid, and as a matter of fact, i havent tried acid on my bottles yet! Thank you ::mug:

    Trouble with twist-cap type bottles

Its not the original goal of the post, but it gets narrowed to this: I dont want to hand a home brewed beer to a friend in a "Polar Pilsen" bottle and say to him: "Look, I brewed this, have a taste". I will know its mine, he will probably believe me, but is kind of unconfortable, IYKWIM

    Trouble with twist-cap type bottles

Well that's not the problem; I have about 6 cases, 36 bottles each, of pry-off bottles sitting in my backyard. It's very popular over here to buy them this way (full, of course) drink them and returning them to the liquor store as a discount to get a new case. Its more eco-friendly and also...

    Trouble with twist-cap type bottles

Damn :( Im toasted on that. I think this happens (day_trippr said it) taht the bell shape in my wing capper isn't optimal. Pry-off bottles get capped tightly right away, since I tried a couple. The trouble is... Pry-off bottles are painted with some heavy duty kind of paint I dont know...

    Trouble with twist-cap type bottles

Missed to say this. At the 5 try, I cracked said glass... Bench capper? That works like a drill press right?

    Trouble with twist-cap type bottles

Hello. Im an avid fan of recycling and I thought It would be good to recycle some used un-marked beer bottles to bottlemy own brew. I found some plain ol' green glass beer bottles. This, when I bought them (and later emptied them) came with twist caps. I thought this was not going to be...

First traditional mead / Question on wood infusing

Its a very old, large whisky bottle with stand. Found that one sitting around very old stuff while looking for a glass carboy at home. Cleaned it up pretty good, found myself a large cork as a stopper and put an airlock on! Holds 4.something liters, its perfect for small batches

First traditional mead / Question on wood infusing

Only 10 days later I was gratefully surprised by the fact that my mead is clearing very fast! While tasting it I noticed alcohol flavor has smoothed out. Can't wait for it to be clear to add some wood :)
