I haven't tried a cold crash yet. Maybe I'll clear out some space in the fridge.

    First Batch

It's now 62 days since intial pitch on my first batch and SG is still stable at 1.002. Honestly I love the smell of this batch, and the complexity of the flavor, but it has maintained that harsh fussel taste and has been stubborn to clarify. I'll give it a bit more time to clarify in the carboy...

    Bray's One Month Mead

Well I finally racked my first 1 gallon BOMM today (40 days after initial pitch). So here's my review so far: 1) WY1388 is a beast! My OG was 1.090 and fermented out to 1.000 quickly (less than two weeks) so I back sweetened up to 1.012 and that stuff ate through it all back down to FG of...

    Bray's One Month Mead

Plan on buying 3 - 3.5lbs of honey for the 1 gallon recipe. Especially if you want to backsweeten. I started with 3lbs and used approx 2.75 to hit the target OG (probably a bit too much spring water in my mix). The remaining .25-.5 lbs was used up very quickly in step feeding, I think there is a...

Easy enough, do you add any additional nutrients when you step feed? Sent from my HTCONE using Home Brew mobile app

    Bray's One Month Mead

Awesome, I figured you had a good reason. I found it a bit difficult to get the honey fully dissolved when I did my step feeding in the 1 gallon carboy so I thought I'd ask. Maybe next time I'll rack off a portion into a sanitized growler so I have more space for mixing. It's interesting that...

    Bray's One Month Mead

SoR, it seems like your preference is to ferment your BOMM dry, then backsweeten. Is there an advantage to doing so vs having a higher OG? Sent from my HTCONE using Home Brew mobile app

    Bray's One Month Mead

Well no carboy eruptions for me (although it did come close during my 24 hour aeration). After 72 hours I'm down to 1.055 from 1.092 so I hit it with the first SNA. I feel like this batch has a much better scent than my first batch (wildflower honey with Champagne Pasteur yeast). Really looking...

    Bray's One Month Mead

Well, I decided my wife wouldn't be too happy if I ended up with Must all over the basement, so I decided to defuse my BOMM. Funneled off a bit into a spare growler and dropped my primary into a bucket. I didn't have any spare airlocks or balloons, so I used a plastic bag with a rubber band...

    First Batch

Still sitting at 1.002 after another week. Here it is next to batch two, a BOMM I put together tonight. BOMM is on the left. My go juice is on the far left (need something to keep me awake while I stay up late making mead after the kids all go to sleep). Sent from my HTCONE using Home Brew...

Better? Or should I pull a bit more? Edit: I pulled a bit more, got it to the level where I could put in my hydrometer without it overflowing. Sent from my HTCONE using Home Brew mobile app

My worry is that if I pull some out it will mostly be the yeast I just pitched Sent from my HTCONE using Home Brew mobile app

    Bray's One Month Mead

So I made my first 1 gallon BOMM tonight, and ran into a bit of a snafu. I pulled out 1/2 cup at the start to account for the smack pack volume, and about 3.5 cups to account for the honey, but by the time I hit my S.G. and added the yeast, I was up to the top of my carboy. There is literally no...

    WLP004 & Melomel & Cyser

My first batch was pretty hot too right after fermentation finished. Seems pretty normal for mead. I'm going to try Bray's One Month Mead for my next batch to try for something that mellows out quicker. Sent from my HTCONE using Home Brew mobile app

    Bray's One Month Mead

Took me a while to read through this, but I'm sold. I followed The Complete Meadmaker for my first batch, but I have 3 lbs of Orange Blossom to make my second batch a BOMM, and 3 lbs of BlackBerry Honey that I'll try as a BOMM varietal after that. The OB will probably go in this weekend after I...

    First Batch

Fermentation appeared to stop earlier this week, so I sanitized my equipment and took a 1.002 S.G. reading. I racked it over to the secondary and took a small sample from the S.G. reading for myself. Taste was pretty good, but the alcohol was a bit harsh. I'm looking forward to seeing how it ages.

    First Batch

I think I'll just go with a fresh pack each time for now. There is a homebrew shop just 15 mins from my house. Maybe once have several batches under my belt I'll try saving the lees.
