First AG tomorrow....tell me whatcha think

After years of brewing with extract, it's time to move on to AG. Purchased the 10 gal. AGS from Northern Brewer and I'm gonna break it in tomorrow. I've been big into Belgian ales lately so I figured a relatively simple Saison recipe might be in order. Just looking for advice or recipe...

Another question from a kegging n00b

So I kegged two batches on Wednesday. I hit them with 30 psi and left it for 30 hrs. Last night I dropped the psi to 13. When I checked it today the psi dropped to 10. Normal?

    First time kegging...quick question

When y'all force carb, do you attach the beer lines right away or wait till it's time to drink. I racked two brews to kegs yesterday, force carbed at 30psi and of course, when I attached the beer lines, beer shot about half way up. Anyway, would waiting to hook up the beer lines until drinking...

    No more Snow Plow?!

I dig Widmer Brrr, but when it came out it essentially took the place of Snowplow as Widmer's winter seasonal. You could still find Snowplow in 22's last year but I couldn't find it anywhere this year. It's not even on their website anymore. Damn that was a killer stout. I always looked...

    Best place for keg kits?

So my lazy ass is officially done with bottling. I'm looking to keg two batches at a time so I need a kit with 2 kegs, hoses, CO2 tank, faucets, etc. Basically everything I'm going to need to get started. Where's the best place to order on-line? I'm sure I could do a search but as I said...

    apfelwein slightly carbed (unintentional)

I bottled my first and only (so far) batch of apfelwein a couple months ago and noticed today that a couple bottles have a slight carbonation, while others are perfectly still. It sat in primary for about six months before bottling and has been sitting in a closet in the low to mid 60's since...

    Time for a PM

I'm giving partial mash brewing a go and would like input and suggestions on the recipe I've chosen. 3 lbs. Muntons light DME 2 lbs. Maris Otter 1 lb. Simpsons roasted barley 1 lb. Simpsons dark crystal 1 lb. Flaked oats 1 oz. Fuggle pellets (60 min.) Safale S-04 Just planning on...

Plain table sugar+corn sugar for priming?

I was perusing the kits on Northern Brewer and noticed this suggestion for one of their kits: Just curious if anyone has heard of this technique. I'll be making a Bavarian Hefeweizen soon and I'd like to get the maximum amount of carbonation possible without bottle bombs.

    First lager....finally

I figured if I was ever to brew a lager, now's the time. I don't have the most reliable temp control but my garage fairly consistantly stays in the low 50's this time of year. Anyway, I took what I could from a few different recipes and formulated one of my own. Since this is my first lager...

    Time for another IPA

    Kirkland brand beer

Anyone tried Kirkland brand beer from Costco yet? First of all, I found it weird that cotsco had it's own name brand beer in the first place. I guess Costco does have everything from tires to diapers so it shouldn't be that much of a surprise. I tried all four varieties tonight (a buddy of...

    Brewing tonight....finally

With the Holidays and overtime at work it's been a while since I've brewed. Tonight I finally get to brew up a new batch. I've got some ingredients to throw together and here's what I've come up with: 6 lbs. extra-light DME 1/2 lb. CaraVienne 1/2 lb. Crystal 20L 1/2 lb. CaraPils 1 oz...

    Columbus/Glacier combination

I've been tossing around ideas for my next IPA and I think I've decided on a Columbus/Glacier hop combination. I like the thought of an IPA with earthy, spicy hop character with a bit of citrus in the background. I was just curious if anyone has used these hops together, or done a single hop...

    Extract IPA recipe critique

As always, before I brew I like to throw my next recipe out there for suggestions. I'm looking for an IPA that's hoppy (obviously) but also a bit darker and maltier than your average IPA. I'm also looking for a spicy, herbal, pungent hop profile with just a hint of citrus. 1 lb. light DME...

    Stout recipe critique

I'm going for a stout that's roasty and sweet with a smooth mouthfeel that would go down well after dinner (or after breakfast:drunk:). This should end up about 4.8% ABV, 38 SRM and 24 IBU. What do Y'all think? 5 lbs. light DME 1 lb. Rolled oats 1/2 lb. Chocolate malt 1/2 lb. Roasted...

    Oily residue

I bottled an Altbier tonight and as I was taking a gravity sample I noticed what can only be described as a thin oily film along the surface of the beer. I took a pic but you really can't see it unfortunately. I checked the other brew I have in secondary and It has the same thing. The beer...
