New Garage - Setup Input Needed

Thanks for the input, all. I'd love to switch to electric, but with a new house funds are gonna be tight. Might just be best for me to stick with what I have and save up for while. Thanks again!

New Garage - Setup Input Needed

My wife and I are finishing up on buying a house, and I've hit the jackpot with the garage. It's a 3 car garage and is heated by a natural gas furnace (a huge luxury in Minnesota). I've been using a propane burner to heat my 8 gallon BIAB kettle, but I'm wondering if I should hook up a natural...

    Iodophor and BrewJacket

Hah, you beat me to the answer. Yes, Iodophor is what I should use since it's not acidic, I'm just wondering if I can keep it in a spray bottle to use later.

    Iodophor and BrewJacket

Yeah, sorry for any confusion; I was vague in the OP. It's because Star-San is acidic, it messes with the coating. They offer 3 options: 1) Iodophor;2) Boil with the wort; and 3) Bake it for an hour. I'm just thinking that Iodophor is the easiest solution, so I'm curious about what I need to...

    Iodophor and BrewJacket

Well, my BrewJacket just arrived today, and I'm excited to get my next brew going! Now, I know I have to use a method other than Star-San to sanitize the immersion rod. I was originally thinking of just boiling the rod with the wort, but I'm now thinking that it might just be too unwieldy of a...

    Do I Need New Disconnects?

I actually replaced the o-rings for the kegs about 2 years ago (I did have a bad lid gasket, so I decided to replace them all at the same time). I think the posts are OK since I sprayed StarSan all over the keg, distributor, and gas lines, but I'll be sure to double-check.

    Do I Need New Disconnects?

I've been having some woes with a leak somewhere in my keg system. I replaced the distributor with a new Taprite system (which is wonderful) and with it new lines for both gas and liquid sides. However, what was left in my C02 tank still seemed to drain very quickly. I'm taking the...

    BrewJacket Lid Hole

I just ordered it yesterday, but the site says it includes the stopper. Hopefully, it arrives with the package. I hadn't heard of people having problems with the rod coating having problems with the wort. I was actually considering getting some of the sleeves just to simplify sanitizing, so I...

    BrewJacket Lid Hole

I just bought my first BrewJacket off of AIH so I could use their coupon code. The unfortunate thing is that they don’t sell the lids. I don’t really want to pay to ship a lid, plus I just bought a new lid for my bucket fermenter, so I’m thinking I can maybe use a hole saw to cut a hole in the...

    Sealing DIY Tap Tower

Interesting, I didn't think of plumbers putty. It seems like it'd work under the counter well, which is nice because my other idea was to caulk it but wanted to avoid that if possible. However, looking at plumbers putty, it says for stainless steel applications. Would it work between the cast...

    Sealing DIY Tap Tower

Another thought, would it help to hook up a temperature controller to the kegerator? It wouldn't control the humidity issue in the fridge, but I'm wondering if I can consistently keep the temperature above 32 degrees F, would that keep the ice from building up? (Plus, it'd give me an excuse to...

    Sealing DIY Tap Tower

A couple years ago, I bought a used kegerator off of Craigslist. It's a nice Kenmore fridge, but the counter top was warped and cracked, and the tower was a simple one-tap with a sanke connection. So, I cut a piece of thick MDF board to replace the top and built a tap tower using the plan...

    CO2 Regulator Advise

So, the Taprite dual gauge regulator came in yesterday. Hooked it up and I'm already in love with it! Solidly built. Love the dials that are easy to fine-tune and lock in. I've always wondered why regulators rely on a plastic washer to prevent leaking instead of a rubber gasket, and I was...

    CO2 Regulator Advise

I think I'm going with the Taprite. That's right in my price range. Are the ones on Amazon legit?

    CO2 Regulator Advise

I'm thinking of replacing my CO2 regulator for a few reasons. 1) There's a slow leak somewhere in my system that I haven't pinpointed yet, but I suspect it's somewhere in the regulator. 2) The pressure valve requires a screwdriver, and I'd like something with a knob. 3) Along with the other two...

    Plate Chiller with Aquarium Pump

I have a 30 plate chiller with a march pump set up for the wort side. I was thinking of hooking up a submersible aquarium pump on the water side so I can put it in a bucket of ice water and recirculate the water back into the bucket (thinking green - less water waste). I ordered a pump, but...

    When/How to Add Honey

    When/How to Add Honey

Thanks for the advice so far. My main worry at this point is that honey may dry out the finished beer too much. I personally think many commercial porters are too thin-bodied. So, at this point I'm thinking of adding half a lb of honey and including half a lb of honey malt to keep the flavor...

    When/How to Add Honey

I'm planning on brewing a Honey Rye Porter. I have my basic recipe set, but I've never brewed with honey before. My research has led to all sorts of options, including adding at/near flameout, adding to the cooled wort, adding in secondary, or adding to the keg. From what I understand, if the...
