    Inductor Fermenter Infection ?'s

So I have been using a pair of plastic inductor tanks for over a year now with no issues until fairly recently. I've have a few batches in one develop some sort of infection, its either lacto or aceto as it sours the beer. My starters are 4L normally so the yeast beats it out, cold crashing...

    Brutusesque 20 build almost complete

Didn't realize the brutus 20 was actually a 2 vessel brewery, mine is dubbed 20 due to 20g batches in the 30g pots. My bad! ;) I started this back in October, have a thread on my home brew club's website, figured I'd make a thread here. Many thanks to all those that i stole err borrowed ideas...

    Inductor Tank as Conical Build

Got two 35 gallon Norwesco inductor tanks that I'm converting to conical fermenters. Got the idea awhile back and saw that other brewers had done the same thing, that bolstered the idea. Stand is 3/4" plywood top with 2x6 frame, very over engineered to hold the weight of two full...

    HLT fermenting

I seem to recall people using their HLT as a fermenter, but search foo is weak this morning and I couldn't find the threads. I'm sort of in between having sold my carboys and plumbing up some Norwesco inductor tanks and want to brew Monday as I have the day off. I figure with the lid on the...

    Atlanta Brewers, LHBSs, pubs, etc

We just formed a club in the Atlanta metro area and have used olllllo's idea of frapper / platial to map where we each are and what pubs and lhbs are in the area. Its new so not much on there yet, but expect it to get populated as the club members add themselves and their favorite places...

Rusted steel tubing .. can it be trusted for a stand

I just got a line on some free 2" square mild steel tubing that is 1/8" wall thickness. The only issue is its rusty inside and out. I can grind off the outside, no problem. The inside can likely be sandblasted or hit with some acid, or just pour rustoleum in it. I was thinking if the welds...

    Holy hoppy IRA! Too hoppy...

OK, so I read putting hops in bags reduced hops utilization. Then I brewed a batch of IRA and tossed it right in with no bags. Well, my tried and true IRA recipe is now almost an IPA. I really really don't dig it. Its been in kegs for 2 weeks, in primary for 3 before that. Will this mellow...

    Long term grain storage

I've been thinking about a bulk order of at least 2 row and maybe a bag each of a few other things to get a flat rate shipping deal. So far only a few folks local to me have shown interest for more than a few bags to offset shipping, so I thought about just getting myself several bags. Would...

First AG in 5 years .. recipe opinions

So I got into brewing back in 2001 when my room mate got a B3 10 gallon sculpture and learned how to do AG with a homebrew buddy of his. I inherited that setup and continued brewing for a couple more years. I had to move short notice and couldn't bring the setup (*sulk*). I started brewing...

Stuck ferment with washed hefe yeast

I just made a quasi-hefe (sort of half amber and half hefe) and used WL German Hefe yeast, I pitched Friday and still no sign of fermentation. I had washed this yeast from another batch of hefe, have had it in the fridge for a couple of months. I've re-used yeast before with no issues, in fact...

    Better bottles .. handles?

Hi all, I've been using 6.5 gallon glass carboys for fermenters, looking to add a couple more and thought about trying the better bottles knowing the glass ones are going to dry up eventually. Do the handles for the glass carboys fit the better bottles? I need some means of easily moving them...

Using coriander, grains of paradise and sweet orange

I'm looking to duplicate / marry Sam Adams Summer Ale and Sweetwater's Hummer (for those around GA). SA has grains of paradise and lemon, hummer has coriander and orange, so I opted for sweet orange and both coriander and grains of paradise. Short of all out experimentation, I'm looking for...

    Polyethylene drums as fermenters?

I'm soon to up my batch sizes for my 'house amber' to 20 gallons, I found a kettle but I'm contemplating the fermenter. I can use 4 6.5 gallon carboys or I can get a 30 gallon drum. I know there is some argument over oxidation through plastics but I'm wondering if its actually all that...

anyone using 40g plastic conical fermenters?

So I'm thinking about upgrading from 5 gallon batches. I tend to brew four 5 gallon batches at a time which is obviously a lot of work. In a prior life I had a 10 gallon More Beer sculpture setup with a steel conical (had to give it away when I moved =( sadly) and had thought about going back...
