    What to do in St.Louis??

Oh...and I almost forgot....The Bowling Hall of FAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has anyone ever been there? My friends and I used to joke about it, and so I'm kinda curious...

Go to your local pawn shop and buy a single shot .410. Pretty cheap. Pretty close range. And on rabbits, squirrels, and other little critters, pretty effective.

    What to do in St.Louis??

If I remember right, their Top Shelf Sampler consists of La Chouffe (really good), Delirium Tremens (meh), Mardesous (huzzah!), and Maudite (another huzzah!). Trying the beers there on my honeymoon was a huge part of SWMBO giving me the go ahead to start homebrewing 2 months into my marriage.

    What to do in St.Louis??

Seriously, I can't think of a restaurant with a better beer menu than Cicero's. SWMBO insists that I mention the different samplers that can be had...and their salmon pizza.

    What to do in St.Louis??

Oh yeah! I almost forgot: boats in moats! Gambling in riverboat casinos in the Missouri River. Also, if you head out that way, check out Old Town St. Charles; there's some pretty good restaurants down there. And Trailhead Brewery (though honestly, it's good, but not stellar).

    Goofy hop observation

Has anyone else noticed with your new hops (those of you growing yours for the first time) the anxiety is reminiscent of that first beer you made? I've been reading these threads, and it kind of made me chuckle when I realized that all the "there's a spot on a leaf! Oh NO!!!" and "I've planted...

    Something ATE IT >=(

Whoa whoa whoa!! I'm not suggesting turning the Thunderdome into a giant mammal zapper; just something that will give a little shock to deter (think along the lines of the shock a dog gets from those invisible fences)... Although, it is kinda funny to think of sitting out on the porch with...

    Hoppin' in Missouri

I'm in SW MO, also (Branson). I'm going to try and let my hops get as much morning sun as possible, and then keep them in partial shade in the afternoon.

Holy crap!! Are you growing your hops in the Thunderdome?! You could always try and run some electric current through that fence...

Any body ever tried Flatbranch Brewing in Missouri?

Their Oil Change Stout is really good, and they make a pretty decent pumpkin ale around Thanksgiving. If you're from Missouri, then you're probably used to the 105 degree summers with 99% humidity, so sit out on that patio on Friday evening and ogle all those nubile coeds downtown! Mizzou, how...

What do you think of Boulevard Brewing company

Their Wheat is pretty good in the summer, and with hot wings. Their Irish Red was pretty good this year too. But their Saison and the Quad from their Smokestack series are really nice!

Pets...And Why We Love Them (Pay Homage Here)

Nah.... Like I said, she was the runt. She's almost 2 and she only weighs 80 lbs., so she's pretty small. That being said, she's still convinced she was the 3.5 lbs. she was when I got her, and that she belongs in my lap. Usually while I'm trying to read. Where you from in St. Louis?

    What to do in St.Louis??

Personally, I'd skip the O'fallon Brewery. I grew up in that town, and you'll end up driving at least 30 minutes just to get there and that's about all you'll do (although, should you go to O'fallon, eat at Stefanina's). Go to Cicero's!!!!! It's on the Delmar Loop in U-City. AMAZING beer...

Here's my runt from a litter. My Great Pyrenees pup, Doxology, at 6 weeks old.

    Last few Batches... sniff

Something else you can do: Huge bucket/tub. Fill with ice and water (and if you so choose, salt). Take a big t-shirt, and put it on over your carboy till the bottom is in the water. Will drop fermentation temps quite well.

Not too sure if this is bad...

Phew! Good to know. It was just one of those rarely-had-post-brewing moments, of OH CRAP!

Not too sure if this is bad...

So, I brewed a batch yesterday: 1/2 lb. of crystal malt, 1/2 lb. of Belgian aromatic, and 1/4 lb. of Special Roast were steeped prior to bringing everything to a boil. I realized today (afterward, of course!) that I probably needed to mash the aromatic and special roast to have starch conversion...
