Main Grain Homebrew shop mysteriously closed in Mandeville, LA

Main Grain is not able to reopen at this time. If, at a future date, if we are allowed to reopen, we will liquidate the entire inventory. Your gift certificates will be fully honored at that time. If not, you will receive a full refund of your purchase price....... So...what in the world...

Main Grain Homebrew shop mysteriously closed in Mandeville, LA

Ok cool. Please post back if you hear anything. As I said in my initial post, despite my disappointment in the way this is so weirdly going down, I am more bummed than anything. I mean, I have a homebrew shop 4 minutes from my house! But it's closed, kinda, maybe, possibly. Such a tease. I can...

Main Grain Homebrew shop mysteriously closed in Mandeville, LA

You know, I was skeptical about the whole gift card deal. I found it odd that I would have to wait one month to use it after paying for it. Granted, the gift card value was $200 and you only had to pay $100 for it. But...it always seemed like he had cash flow problems. What I mean is...he never...

Main Grain Homebrew shop mysteriously closed in Mandeville, LA

Yea. That's pretty much what I have gathered as well. I am pretty bummed. And worse, in my humble opinion, the owner has done a disastrous job managing his customer's expectations. I I guess it's possible maybe he got some sort of cease and desist order which prevents him from doing anything...

Main Grain Homebrew shop mysteriously closed in Mandeville, LA

I'm guessing this is a shot in the dark, but does anyone know what's up with the North Shore's only and awesome homebrew shop? It mysteriously closed with no notice or sign on the window or explanation on the answering machine. People bought gift cards right after thanksgiving that could not be...

    Who prefers bottling over kegging?

Interesting responses. Keep em coming. I was initially curious if there are some who have the space, money, etc but just prefer to bottle for whatever reason. Myself, there's just something about a brown bottle of beer that is appealing.

    Who prefers bottling over kegging?

Are there any veteran home brewers out there who prefer to bottle as opposed to kegging? Forget money differences, or time till you can drink differences. Are there any all grain brewers who just *prefer* to bottle??

    AG equipment purchase

So I'm looking into going AG...the cooler MLT and HLT kits available from the typical online places. Looks like the consensus is to go with the 10 gallon MLT even though I only intend to brew 5 gallon batches. Some say that if I want OGs approaching 1.08 then I need the 10 gallon cooler, and...

Does anyone else think Sam Adam's beer sucks

Sam Adams got me into "craft" beer 20 years ago. I credit then with opening my eyes. With so much out there these days, I usually pass it up at the store. I'm at the point where even Abita seems a bit too commercial for me, and I live 5 miles from the Abita Brewery. Sometimes I pint for the...

    First batch in 16 years...

My first batch since 1996 is in the primary waiting for me to find time to bottle. 17 years is a long time!! A few things have changed, but I got the bug again!!

    Elusive rolling boil

It was a ceramic flat top electric. Not that it matters I suppose.

    Elusive rolling boil

Pretty sure no scorching. Bottom of kettle was clean. I think I'll use the propane burner next time. I hope I don't have 5 gals of nastiness!

    Elusive rolling boil

Thanks for the replies. Let the fermentation begin. Any predictions on possible ill effects of having a "sometimes rolling boil"? Thanks all.

    Elusive rolling boil

First homebrew try since '95. This stupid electric range is not able to achieve a rolling boil on 3 gal of water unless the lid is on. Period. Instructions for Belgium style wheat indicate to add LME with 15 minutes left in the 60 min boil. After adding LME and putting lid on, 60 mins was up...
