    Warhead Rye IPA

This is my first recipe created from scratch on BeerSmith. I brewed it on New Years Eve (super nice day in Colorado!) It was also the keg that emptied the quickest! IPAs are my favorite and I was really pleased with the result. I didn't make it too bitter since it was my first attempt at a...

    Cooler System Efficiency

I got 75% on my AG batch using the 10 gallon cooler and batch sparge too. Maybe the grain crush want good enough? I've heard on here that can affect the efficiency a little bit.

Please help me move to all grain

i got that same fryer and burner at bass pro! I added a steel ball valve to the pot and it works great! Just gotta be careful as you approach boil point during full boils so it doesn't foam over

    batch sparge

Thanks for the info! That will save me some time. Sounds like i just need to stir for a few minutes when i sparge then vorlauf and drain.

    batch sparge

Does letting it rest increase efficiency of sugar and protein extraction? Cuz I would definitely shorten my rest period (10-15min now) to save some more time if it doesn't matter.

Water before grains or vice versa

I've only done one AG batch. Had all the grains in the tun, poured 3.3 gal water at 164* right in, and it dropped immediately to 152 for mashing. I only lost 1* over a 60 min mash in the 10 gal cooler. Then did 2 batch sparges each 1.6 gal. I drained the last sparge until I reached pre boil...

Last week my foil didnt fall off the flask but it was pushed up a couple inches. I just racked the beer this morning and it looks/smells/tastes great!

    Making a wort chiller?

I was able to make a 50' chiller for the same price as buying a pre made 25' one. All at Home Depot. 50' Copper pipe- I believe 1/4" or 3/8" 10' of clear vinyl tubing cut in half 3 hose clamps 1 Garden hose adapter to attach to faucet

Why not more interest in 10 gallon batches?

My setup is good for AG 5 gallon batches. Maybe in the future ill upsize

    Brewing Confesional

I've done 10 batches in the last year (first year of brewing). Only one batch tasted weird to me, but everyone else likes it. It was a honey ale recipe from Alaska brewshop that i got from a coworker. It may just be me being paranoid or not used to tasting that style of beer, but it was the one...

Alternative Grain Beer Live and Let Rye

Thanks for the recipe I'm definitely gonna try this! 2 questions: is the 7 days listed as the dry hop: Is that 7 days after sitting in the primary? I've done a black IPA that told me to dry hop when i siphoned it to the secondary which was at about 7 days into the ferment period too. Plus did...

First AG and I messed up... Feedback wanted!

I bet the broad temp changes impacted the sugar and protein extraction. I'm no expert but I did my first AG batch yesterday too and I made a mash tun out of a 10gal orange beverage cooler. The temp was 153 and it only lost 1 deg F over a 60 minute mash. My target OG was right on the money. I...

    Hello from Colorado!

The AG Brown Ale I brewed yesterday started fermenting within a couple hours! It was also my first batch using a yeast starter. Definitely shortened the delay before fermenting started.

    Hello from Colorado!

Hey all I'm new to Home Brew Talk and here to introduce myself. I am an air traffic controller and I live in Broomfield Colorado. I have brewed for a little over a year making 10 extract batches, and just made my first all-grain batch today. I have learned a lot about brewing from this site in...

    First Batch...maybe a bit off

Plus I made a wort chiller. Cools the beer after boil in 5 minutes and is supposed to hold flavors in better

    First Batch...maybe a bit off

The more water you use during the boil, the better the flavor! My first batch tasted a little watered down too because i followed the directions and only boiled 2 gallons, then added the necessary water into the carboy to total 5 gallons. So the first thing i bought was a bigger pot (7.5gal) to...
