    Most Renowned Beer Competition

I'm not big on the beer competition thing yet, but I've got a beer I'd like to try my hand at submitting. But I don't want to submit it to local or smaller competitions. I'm looking for the big national type that come once a year and are the most difficult to win. I have found this list...

    Jester King Beers

I am trying to sell this collection of beers I have. Anyone who knows much about Jester King realizes that some of those are pretty difficult to come by. Anyhow, I had 3 identical sets that I have collected over the course of last year. One I sold to a buddy who was on deployment. One Is for...

    Quick Disconnects

So I was content with some 3/8th inch bore quick disconnects and 1/2 tubing until I read about everyone worrying about their line sizes and talking about 1" lines... But the only ss quick disconnects I found that large are crazy expensive by comparison (~$70 each set vs ~$16 for the set). Am...

    Pot Sizing Help

I currently have 4 SS pots I'd like to set up an electric system with. I understand I'll need an HLT, a Mash/Lauter Tun and a Boil Kettle. The sizes are as follows ~30 quarts, 48 quarts, ~70 quarts and 96 quarts. If I can use these that would save a fair bit of coin. But I'm not about axing my...

    Lactobacillus question.

We know high hop content or high abv content will thwart Lactobacillus. But I was wondering do either of those kill off the Lacto? Or does it go dormant like yeast usually does? Also, I know the abv cut off is about 8%. Anyone know the IBU cutoff? Thanks.

Delicious Weizenbock Recipes - where are they all?

I recently had Live Oak Primus and it was delicious. I was inspired to make my own weizenbock at home now but the only recipes I have found are those with no backup. As in, "here is a recipe". And then in the comments or following forum chatter backed it up. So I have no way to tell if its good...

Boiling the grape skins and juice?

Hello all, I would like to try my hand at a small batch of wine made from grapes. I've read up on it and see everywhere people adding campden tablets to the crushed grapes and grape juice and letting that sit 12 - 24 hours before pitching the yeast. But my fiance is allergic to sulfites so...

Critique/Advice on My First Brew (thorough with pictures)

So I have made apfelwein once. It was a fun experience so I decided to try my hand at brewing. And of course as a novice I couldn't chose to do extract, I definitely had to do an all grain batch. And of course I couldn't choose and "easy" beer I had to go with a Scaldis clone. Well all things...

    Yeast Starter Conflicting Answers.

Considering a yeast starter, when I decant (take off the wort fluid) and then pour it into the 5 gallon wort filled carboy. Am I supposed to pour everything else? People say to do so carefully, but how come; what am I watching out for? Is there a difference between "yeast" and "trub"? Or do I...

    Yeast Calc Confirmation

So I have purchased the ingredients for a beer with a predicted OG of ~1.110. The guy at the LHBS suggested that with a beer that high ( Didn't realize that was that high...? ) I should make a yeast starter. I said roger that and went home and have been researching this evening on how to do...

    Bottling temperature mistake

So I bottled my Apfelwein which was going to bottle carb. It fermented for almost exactly 2 months before I bottled. I didn't repitch yeast. Our first cold front came throught and it is so cold out, so the heater is on inside. The heater keeps this place around 80 so I figured the 65 degrees...
