    PicoBrew Zymatic

Picobrew has the best customer service of any company I've ever dealt with, by far. I was about to brew and I wanted to update the firmware of my Zymatic but their flash utility only supported Windows and I have a Mac. I saw one of the admins mention on the forums that they were working on a...

    Off Flavor in IPAs

Wow. Funky Buddha is the brewery I was referring to. I had their Hop Gun IPA. I brew in a closed keg system so oxidation is definitely not the the issue on my end. I'm convinced it's the water.

    Off Flavor in IPAs

I will be trying the RO water for next brew. What's interesting is that I tasted one of the IPA's brewed by a local brewery and I picked up a hint of the same off flavor that I've been tasting in my IPA's. I spoke to their head Brewer and he told me that they use untreated tap water, run...

Wow. Some manifesto you got there :) You're 100% spot on about the Pico. Great write up.

    Off Flavor in IPAs

Yup. Same as the others posting here. Just about the only thing I haven't tried is RO water with brewing minerals added.

He is not the OP. :) Also, I'm tried campden tablets and that hasn't solved my problems.

OP, Did you ever solve this problem? I've been having the same issues with my IPA's and its supremely frustrating. I've tried just about everything to nail down the source but no luck.

+100 You're spot on about the Zymatic. Fyi, it seems most of the taste issues were with the first batch. I would put it through a full cleaning cycle before brewing on it. Enjoy!

Apparently a relay inside the machine broke so it was resetting itself mid-brew. They were able to diagnose the issue remotely. They sent me shipping material and a label to send it back, and sent me a new one a couple weeks later.

Just want to say that Picobrew has amazing customer service. They respond to support tickets in minutes, replaced my machine no questions asked when I had issues with it, paid for shipping both ways, and even threw in some freebies when they sent me the new machine. Very happy with my purchase.

It does not boil the mash.

This is what I found on the forum for batch size. I asked about the absolute minimum size. We'll see what the answer is. Baja, email [email protected] and ask them for access to the forum. If you have an order pending, I would think they'd give you access no problem.

Congrats Baja! Hopefully you won't have to wait as long as the kickstarters did. FYI, the 2.5 gal batches start with approx 3.7 gal. I would think you can do a 1 gallon brew. I'll post on the picobrew forum to get a definitive answer.

I hope to have mine within a couple of weeks. I'll definitely post a full review once I get to use it a bit.

Looks like it has built-in cooling, fermentation, and cleaning. Very sparse on details though.
