Plate chiller as HERMS or RIMS?

Would I be able to use my plate chiller to heat my wort instead of cooling it? My reasoning for this is if I want to do step mashing, run hot water through to heat the wort through my steps. Is this a horrible idea? I would also be using my plate chiller to cool my wort after the boil, but I'm...

    Wort chiller water efficiency

What is the comparison of water usage efficiency between an immersion, a counter flow, and a plate chiller? I want a chiller that is effective, but pretty water efficient. I've read immersion chillers are great, but can take a ton of water. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on plate chillers, and...

    Mini fridge fermentation chamber/kegerator

Here's my idea, I would love input from everyone with a little more know-how than me. I want to take my old mini fridge and build a kegerator and a fermentation chamber from it. Can I do a bock-ish beer at ale temps?

I've been searching on here and on Google and I'm not coming up with very good results. I want to brew a bock beer, but I don't have the equipment to lager. I can only do ales. I don't know if there is a name for this specific type of beer (dark, malty, low ibu, and a carmel/toffee taste) and I...

    Very foamy pour from bottle.

I'm waiting anxiously for my very first beer to be done. I made a Brewer's Best witbier extract. They have been sitting in bottles for almost three weeks. I wanted them ready for this weekend so I pulled one out and put it in the fridge for a day and a half. When I poured it on Sunday, it foamed...

    When to bottle?

I brewed up a Brewer's Best witbier extract kit on the 27th. I really want to be able to share my first batch of beer on Halloween. Should I bottle now and let it bottle condition until Halloween, or should leave it in the primary longer and bottle condition a shorter time?
