Somehow an APA with 3 hop types left

I've EK Goldings, Styrian Goldings and Amarillo available for a batch. How would you use them in an APA?

    And so, what?

    Newbie Freezer question

Consider it pure gold. You can buy a STC1000 or a similar device like thadass told you.

"Brew House" vs "Actual Mash" Efficiency

Hi there, I was wandering: how much difference is there between a mash/preboil efficiency and a brewhouse efficiency? A common value, I mean Usually I get 7-8 points of difference (BIAB), sometimes 11-12

    Yerba mate recipe

I used about 1.6 grams per Liter in an APA with 1,050 OG 36 IBU. In your opinion will the outcome be too bitter?
  8. Ixtlanas

Optimum length of time for dry hopping.

I wouldn't say it is a practice :) It was an experiment, and because the first time a wonderful APA came out, I kept continuing. But all these different/uncertainty outcomes are boring me.

Optimum length of time for dry hopping.

You got the point.... this technique is experimental, and to now it gave me different outcomes. For example in one batch I had a full grass flavour... as already said first two batches were wonderfull, the others so so. Usually I use standard DH, from 1 to 3 grams/Liter, about 20 to 60 grams/5...

Optimum length of time for dry hopping.

#Yooper No DH, I mean: - 7 grams in xx ml of alcohol (xx stays for: the amount which covers the hops, pellets is better, of course). I use alcohol for food use, dunno the correct name in Eng, it's 95°) - after 5/7 days I pick the alcohol which has extracted aromas (and alpha acids) and I put it...

    Yerba mate recipe

Well I used 'amletic' 'cause I don't know if correcting the pH is a right move or not. Generally speaking, I am curious about it: if introducing 'elements' in a beer strictly require a pH control or not.
  12. Ixtlanas

Optimum length of time for dry hopping.

Couldn't be simply a question about hop quality? I state this 'cause I noticed big aroma changes between several batches of the same recipe. Centennial for bittering, Cascade for late addition and DH In the first one, I put 7 grams of Cascade in DH with Alcohol in about 5 Gals (hops in alcohol...

    Yerba mate recipe

An amletic doubt: if I want to add water infused with yerba mate in the second fermenter, when should I correct the pH, before infusing mate (temp < 80°C) or after the infusion? To say, to reach a pH of about 5.5 in the water addition...

    Question after bottling. Taste question...

Please explain this, do you mean an overdose? Sometimes I use nutrients but always under the suggested dose.

bottle sanitization: is it REALLY necessary?

I've got only one bottle infected among thousands and the reason was that I forgot to sanitize it.
  16. Ixtlanas

    Bitter taste

    :rockin:

    Centennial/Cascade IPA

Seems OK. If you leave the 0 boil hops for a large number of minutes before chilling the wort (p.e. 10 to 20 minutes), you'll get a slightly increased number of IBUs, depending on the A.A. value. BU/GU 0,97 is ok if you like bitter IPAs
  18. Ixtlanas

    Centennial/Cascade IPA

Oh Yes I tried once Centennial in DH in another recipe, it gave me grassy flavor and none of citric notes. But the reason could have been everything, not necessary Centennial aroma spectrum.
  19. Ixtlanas

    Centennial/Cascade IPA

Don't know about Centennial in late addition, but Centennial as bittering and Cascade is something gorgeous, my preferred APA I'd take out the Carapils, it's redundant, unless you have color issues with the Crystal 75L

What's mash-out in BIAB and what is it for? Do we need it at all?

Exactly. Efficiency is a great diagnostic tool and it must not be assumed as a 'skills indicator'. I'd prefer to get a constant let's say 65% final eff. than an unstable eff. which changes from 70 to 90 each time. About the diagnostic value: I started all grain method 2 months ago doing...
