    Oslo at Room Temperature?

I've used Bootleg Oslo regularly in summertime, or in cooler weather with a heat belt. Last week it was still pleasant here, I brewed two batches. The Pilsner with Diamond Lager Yeast went in the ferm fridge, the Pale Ale with Oslo on the basement floor. That's been fermenting at 72. Has anyone...

Split Batch, Ale Yeast and Wild Ferment?

When I was a kid, we fermented cider by leaving it on the counter. I just bought two gallon jugs of pasteurized cider from different producers. I plan to split it three ways, one each variety to ferment with S-04 or Nottingham, and a mix of the two to ferment wild. The young man working for one...

    Fixing Bland Beer

I brewed a pilsner on new equipment, got low efficiency, corrected with DME. Now I have a bland beer that tastes about like a macro lager. I can just keep drinking it, or brew again and dump it. I also considered dry hopping in the keg, or blending. I could blend it with the current APA, or brew...

New York Bayou Classic SP10, Free Long Island

Well used, good working order. Paint burned off and replaced by rust. These sell new for $70. I'll throw in the leg extensions, I think they're $40 new. Now free, come and get it.

    Faster Partial Mash

I've made some reference to this method in other threads, perhaps it should have it's own. Many of us love all grain brewing, but sometimes we lack the time for a full brew day. Extract, steeping grains and partial mash can make great beer in less time. Often partial mash beers are done with a...

    Happy Easter!

Okay, so probably no one is coming over, or you're not going out. But I prefer to look at the bright side: less cooking, less cleaning and only one person to argue with!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

To all of us, and everyone everywhere! :cask: I wish you all a nice day with family and friends, and of course homebrew. I heard a quote last night that went something like: If you have enough breath to complain about anything, you have enough reason to be thankful for something. Enjoy your day.

New York Free Pin Lock Firestone Keg

I found this at the curb with some rainwater in it. It appears intact and complete. I use ball locks, I have enough kegs, and I don't want to spend money converting this one. I'm in Rocky Point, come and get it. Bring a couple of homebrews if you like, you can try mine too.

    Wyeast 1318 Substitute

Last year I used 1318 in a spiced Christmas beer (Gordon Strong's) and an oatmeal stout for St Patrick's Day. Both were a success, but I didn't save any yeast. Now the local stores are out of it. I've had yeast die during summer delivery so I don't want to order it online. I've read that people...

    Going to Harrisburg, Carlisle Pa

I see that there are a few breweries in Harrisburg, they all review pretty well. For those who have been there, what do you suggest. I love IPAs, Pale Ales, good Lagers. I'm not too fond of sours, fruit beer, exotics.

Door and Fender Rust; Repaint or Replace?

The prior owner of my '06 Magnum sideswiped a frozen snowbank, later spraying the damage. But it's rusting underneath. I know I can sand, prime, putty and paint it. But unlike my older cars, the front fender panel isn't welded, it's screwed on. I can probably find the parts when I buy the bumper...

Tool Kit for 2006 Dodge Magnum

I have always driven older cars. The latest model year I ever owned was 1987, and newest was 9 years old when I bought it. So I carried a full set of tools with me, and spares in case of roadside repair. Well, I just went wild and bought a 2006 Hemi Magnum RT. I realized that I probably can't...

You Never Know Who You Might Meet

So, two guys walk into a BBQ joint, see? I was getting something to eat with my wife on Saturday. There was a couple there with a cute baby. We all sat down at adjacent tables. I had a Captain Lawrence Clearwater Kolsch, first time I tried it. It's very good, I offered it to my wife to try. The...

    Fill a Keg Outdoors?

Ordinarily I rack to the keg from the kitchen counter. Right now my back is stiff and sore, I don't really want to carry the fermenter up from the basement. The basement door is level with the driveway, I can fill a keg in the driveway and use a hand truck to bring it around to the kitchen. I...

    Gravity Fed Glycol Chiller?

Has anyone tried it? My craigslist ferm fridge died. I generally plan to buy a chest freezer on sale, and meantime use ambient basement temps, a cooler bag and ice. But I wonder if I can use less power in a mini fridge to cool glycol in a coil, keeping the fermenter in a separate cooler, letting...

    House Brew for a Bar?

I know a bar owner, (okay, a few) but one who would like to have his own beer just for his bar. I know that he could have it contract brewed. There are a couple of restaurants in the area that have their own, and plenty of breweries here. But I'm just sort of looking for thoughts or experiences...

    America's Cup Anyone?

If you haven't seen this you should. Big catamarans dueling at 40mph sailing above the water. Last time, (2013) NZ led 8 races to 1 before USA came back to win eight straight and keep the cup. Racing was scheduled to start today, fleet rounds first. Delayed due to weather. I will watch when I can.
