Swamp "Heater" for SS Brewtech Chronical

OK, so I got an SS Brewtech Chronical 14 gal BME (Merry Xmas to me ). Assembly went great, and I have been waiting a whole week for the inaugural brew. I guess I assumed that the combination of the neoprene jacket and the kinetic energy of fermentation would all but guarantee that this...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Yeah, in using the 65L design, I have decent numbers doing a 10 G batch with sparge using a different vessel. But when I do a 5 G batch - the grain bill is so small that we don’t need to sparge - my numbers are wayyy lower. Even with mashing out for 20+ min. So sparging using the BrewZilla makes...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Hey all, I've brewed on a BrewZilla 3.1 65L for a year. As a small homebrew club/brewery in planning (we are definitely on hiatus due to COVID), I selected it due to its size, price, consistency, and ease of cleanup. For the most part, I really enjoy working with this device. I've brewed on it...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've logged on to this thread to also report that recently, I've been experiencing higher-than-normal attenuation from 1318, after years of pokey, 70-75%. Using 1318 for years, I've controlled temperature, even overpitched in over to boost cell count--but recently I've been using different...

    No krausen fermenting under pressure?

Thanks for the heads up! A video of the active, krausen-free fermentation is here: https://share.icloud.com/photos/0ql8swXY9hfaZqmUbYvehNBYg#Alexandria_-_Potomac_Yard

    No krausen fermenting under pressure?

Hi all, I have two BrewZillas set up in my garage for fermentation. I’ve been brewing for years—hundreds of gallons under my belt—but this was the first time I tried to ferment under pressure using the bulkhead connectors on the BrewZilla and a Spunding valve. In case anyone is asking, here’s...

Freak of Science...a NEIPA turned clear...?

Updating my post from last night-after a 24h cold crash and racking to keg, voila: Obviously the first pint is opaque...but let me point out: 1) the added MgSO4 must have helped the yeast a lot—it dropped out so the first pint was without that burn. No other factors were changed in the...

Am I the only one that uses epsom salt (MgSO4) in my water profile?

Hi all, First time using a combination of Epsom salt, Kosher salt, and calcium carbonate to my NE IPA—was instead using mostly gypsum. The Washington, DC (Northern VA) area has moderately hard water. I wanted more Mg but not too much, and more SO4 but not too much, and this was the ticket. The...

Freak of Science...a NEIPA turned clear...?

This happens to me a lot. Every. Freaking. Time. But—I am trying new techniques and watching this thread, and promise to report back. <<FACT: you open a can of month-old commercial NEIPA and it’s still hazy>> So there’s reasons why certain homebrewed NEIPAs seem to clear out faster. Just...

What I did for beer today

—>Instead of brewing just one batch, I did two. It’s only about an extra hour or so of hands-on work, and I got ten gallons! Did my NE IPA and a Citra IPA. —>Really focused on brewing salts this time when compared to my city water. I think this will have a profound effect on both the mouthfeel...

Stop mold in fermentation chest freezer?

Hi all, I have a Magic Chef chest freezer with a dual-stage temperature controller for fermentation. Despite my best efforts to keep it clean between uses, it gets moldy towards the end of fermentation. Not a huge deal since the carboy is sealed, but I use a ported better bottle to facilitate...

Searching for Cyro Hops / Hop Hash / Lupulin Powder

Hop hash is distributed by LD Carlson and I can find it in Amazon...but it vanishes crazy fast. Idaho #7 Hop Hash 2 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074DB1MXX/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 PS-Idaho 7 Hop Hash is crazy good in whirlpool

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

There’s nothing like that first pour from the keg...that you dump out because it’s all yeast. And the second. And the third. But the fourth pour, aw yeah—that’s when it’s money. Seeing that golden hue and the beautiful opacity is something to take in.

Hopping rates for juicy kettle sour

I don’t know the brewers that well anymore, but given the principles that we as a group have employed in the NEIPA thread, it should work just fine. This Sour Weapon ingredient—I’m checking it out now: That’s unbelievable! To be sure, speed on preserving volatile hop compounds is key. This...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

25 IBU/5.2% ABV “A brightly quenching, floral & juicy dry-hopped sour blond ale; kettle soured with our house Lactobacillus, then hopped & dry-hopped Citra and Azacca.” It’s on tap only unfortunately. What would be VERY interesting is to see if biotransformation is possible with non traditional...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Beautiful. Reminds me of a _heavily_ dry hopped Belgian sour from Bluejacket (in DC) called Wallflower.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I’m curious to know—sounds like lengthier hopping would cause more persistent haze. What did you change in the grain bill?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Throw it into the keg. My hope is that its very design promotes an incredible amount of hop contact with the beer.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Typically I use a weighted hop bag for the high kräusen charge, and I recently bought a 300 micron mesh stainless tube for the keg. Heard great things for ease of use and no concerns about a lengthy stay in the keg. Great price, too...
