Whole Gingerbread House in the boil

It might be that I am just trying to make it through my Friday at work, but I laughed out loud at the thought of you just throwing in a cookie that you didn't feel like eating.

Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

I have a keg of this two months into the aging process. I am looking forward to tapping it!

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I brewed up 10 gallons of this up this weekend as a BIAB. OG came out right at 1.046. Looking forward to seeing what all of the fuss is about.

Going to Charleston S.C., best beer?

Palmetto brewing is my favorite to visit, great beer and an awesome setting. Holy City is also very good, try their Pluff Mudd Porter

Firestone Walker to end production of Wookey Jack, double Jack and Opal

A sad day indeed. I will have to pick up a sixer of the wookie this weekend.

How long have you suffered through bad batch of homebrew?

I've already tried it as my second or third beer and it isn't much better. It might not be the columbus hops and I'm not ruling out an infection. I haven't had one yet so I don't have anything to compare, and this is the first time that I have done a straight columbus hop beer. I'm not...

Dry Hopped Miller Lite on Tap

I am curious to see the results.

Maybe I don't like Columbus hops? (First NEIPA)

Funny you should mention this. I am dumping an IPA I made with nothing but Columbus hops. I might experiment with using them in the future but I am pretty gun shy about using them right now.

How long have you suffered through bad batch of homebrew?

I will start. I recently made a batch of an IPA that used nothing but Columbus hops. Well now I know for certain that I do not like an IPA made solely from Columbus hops. Tastes like warm garbage to me. I can't even take the smell. I have struggled through half of the keg. The dankness...

Lessons learned building a brew stand

I'm thinking about building up a brew stand and I had thought about using a cart as a base. Do you have any pics of your setup?

    My first BIAB brew day.

Good question. I will check the next time I go in. It was my first time using it.

    My first BIAB brew day.

I might try and just let it drain next time to compare the efficiency. I'm happy with the spike kettle and it came with a high quality t-shirt in case you were on the fence. I wasn't able to find any real discounts on it though. I was above the 8.5 gallon mark with my grains and strike...

    My first BIAB brew day.

I have been brewing off and on for a few years and I always intended to go all grain at some point. So I decided now was as good a time as any. I had to upgrade some of my gear from my old aluminum turkey fryer set up. First up is the kettle, I bought the 15 gallon spike brewing kettle. I...

    Fermentation chamber build: fail/win?

I knew there was a reason that I hung out here. Brass shank collars would really set this one off! I'm still debating on the third tap, if I do add one I was thinking in the middle a little bit above the other two but I am going to hold off for now.

    Fermentation chamber build: fail/win?

I am still pretty excited. It shined up pretty well with the coat of wax, I might see if I can put a bit of a shine on the drip tray. In a good news/bad news situation it looks like I can get a third keg in there. I did my initial measurements with my 20lb CO2 bottle but I decided to use my...

    Fermentation chamber build: fail/win?

Now, completely forget about what you read above. The day after I placed the order to best-buy for the fridge I found this magnificent bastard on craigslist. I thought that the price must be a misprint and I was worried about some type of scam, but after driving an hour to see it I picked it...

    Fermentation chamber build: fail/win?

Stick with me, I believe this is in the right sub-forum. I have been brewing for a few years off and on when my schedule and my family permit. I decided that it was time that I try to manage my fermentation temperatures a bit better. My last house had a basement that maintained a decent...

Washington The new Rainier Beer is actually pretty damn good

See, I'm so new in Washington that I misspelled where I live.

Washington The new Rainier Beer is actually pretty damn good

Thanks for the recommendations. I have tried a few of the Elysian beers and they are pretty good. So far my favorite local beer that I have tried is the Boneyard RPM IPA but that one is from Oregon as well. I haven't had a chance to visit any of the breweries yet. Any recommendations on ones...

Washington The new Rainier Beer is actually pretty damn good

I will have to keep my eyes open for this one. On a slightly unrelated note. I'm new in Washington, what are some of the really good local beers that I should be keeping my out for? Most of the local stuff that I am seeing in the store is from Oregon.
