    What is Fresh?

Maybe it's more of an expectations thing. Now that beers are insanely hop flavor-forward, it's gotten to where many commercial IPAs I have are very much the same way, but just not hazy. The lack of perceived bitterness has carried over. Just my experience. I could be and probably am wrong...Or...

    What is Fresh?

But that's not what I'm doing HERE. What I'm saying is NEIPAs have changed the way we think about, perceive, and brew ANY hoppy styles.

    What is Fresh?

Do you disagree with me? If so, why? Our idea of hoppy now is WAY different it was a decade ago. Now, if beers aren't borderline hop burned (new term that came with NEIPAs), they aren't hoppy enough.

    What is Fresh?

Oh man, brutal! That sucks. Man, you would not have said this 10 years ago. The rise in popularity of NEIPAs have both improved our brewing practices and ruined our perception of hops. So basically our idea of hoppy is now blown way out of proportion as compared to a decade ago. I firmly...

    Non-alcoholic homebrew - buzzed feeling?

You can also get a placebo buzz. I've experienced this before with NA beer as well. It's trippy. That's a bit of the scary thing about alcohol is what it does to your brain, releasing dopamine, etc.

    What is Fresh?

    Accidentally??? :(

    What is Fresh?

I agree with previous comments though I would amend @lumpher's comment about fresh lagers. A fresh lager would be a kellerbier. Otherwise, you really don't drink lagers fresh as they require extended ageing time to clear and round out. Same with something like barleywine or imperial stouts, etc...

    Cellarscience Baja Experiences

I'd start raising it now. That's higher than I'd like after a week of fermentation. Get it up to 60F at least for now.

I had looked into that. You need to have/be some kind of business. They explicitly say on their site that they don't offer membership to clubs or individuals. Sucks because getting some kind of group setup for regular orders would be badass.

Yeah, those prices can't be beat. That's pretty great. I wish there was an easier way to hook that up around here. I thought I had a hookup for a while with a local brewery, being friends with the brewer, then he started getting all paranoid the owner was going to find out and freak out, so he...

Excellent points. I'd really like to think quality is more important than budget, but the reality of it is as you say, @MaxStout I haven't made a bad beer with Briess, but the jury's still out on whether I can brew most German styles and still feel as happy with the beer as the ones I make with...

Mostly agree. Though the biggest of the big maltsters in Germany don't have a huge step up in quality over some domestic malts. Best Malz is way better than Weyermann in my opinion. Barke pils is bland. Best Malz pils is grand. But I don't really know how much more can be discussed on this. It's...

Interesting info on the economies of scale. I was thinking less shipping, less carbon footprint by going local, even with a bigger maltster like Briess, which is local-ish for me. My time, as a homebrewer, is free to me. I have lots of it and homebrewing is one of my biggest passions. No cost...

I don't know, honestly. Some shops are charging reasonable prices and others, like Northern Brewer, are just astronomical. I shouldn't have to pay more than a dollar/pound for something like Rahr or Briess, which are both Midwest maltsters, by any shop in the Midwest. But they're charging twice...

I like what it adds, kind of a sourdough kind of thing with a toasty/biscuit character. Really nice in Irish Red. I first read about it in Brewing Classic Styles ages ago.

Hmm, well $30 is about what it is for me in Iowa for 25kg. Maybe a tad less. I'm not sure what I'd do if i were in your shoes, probably just what you're doing now. I imagine craft beer that is available is essentially jumping in on the trends going on here in the US: hazy, fruity, sour, and...

Where in Norway are you? Is shipping reasonable or pretty high to get malt from the UK? I'm not sure what I'd do if I was in a situation like that. Not sure I'd want to drink Ringnes exclusively knowing that Norway doesn't have a huge craft beer scene...unless that's changing.

Nice call on the biscuit malt. I've found I really like Special Roast if I'm not using a good Maris Otter. I also use special roast in my Irish Reds. Absolutely love what it adds to the beer.

Those are high, but they don't look any worse than Northern Brewer to me. Have you looked there recently? https://www.northernbrewer.com/collections/base-malts?_=pf&pf_t_quantity=GrainQty:Full Sacks
