You know you're a home brewer when?

Nope. Wiesn is not the same as weizen. Totally different things. Great masskrug though!

Home Depot crates for carrying carboys

Found these the other day at HD for $9. Heavy-duty and perfectly sized. Attached a pic of my plastic carboy in one of these crates for scale. http:\\www.homedepot.com/p/GSC-Technologies-11-in-x-13-in-x-13-in-Black-Milk-Crate-MC131311-002/204793156/

    Kane AHA Rally - 10/19

I got 1.055 too. My internet investigation of Kane's Facebook page revealed several other folks with the same measurement, with one even showing a picture of his refractometer reading. Let's see if this link works: https://www.facebook.com/KaneBrewing/posts/822146751169122

    Kane AHA Rally - 10/19

This is the recipe sheet they handed out with the wort. All experimental hops. They also handed out a packet of hops for dry hopping. I think they were all different. I got Triskel, a French hop similar to Strisselspalt.

PSA: Please stop carbonating in growlers

When did Westvleteren start labeling their bottles? I thought all they had was a different cap for each style...

    Wide Mouth Glass Fermentor

What about when you wash them out? Don't you have to take them out of the crates?

    Wide Mouth Glass Fermentor

I'm kind of curious if this would be any safer than a glass carboy in the case of breakage? The advantage of being able to reach into it to clean it doesn't change the fact that you'd still have to pick the sudsy wet thing up to dump it out...

    Peanut butter beer?

DuClaw makes "Sweet Baby Jesus" chocolate peanut butter porter. The peanut part tastes very artificial to me, not sure how they add it. The base beer itself also doesn't really work for me. Overall it seems like it sounds like a better idea than it turns out to taste.

New Bayou propane burner - black paint burned RIGHT OFF!

My 8-gallon pot still has a black residue from the first time I used my SQ14 burner. The smoke smelled terrible and I eventually took the pot off to allow the paint to burn away so it wouldn't stain up the pot any more than it already had... That was at least 4 years ago, only surface rust on...

    MoreBeer.com

The east coast warehouse is the Best. Thing. Ever. My last order from B3 was at least 3 years ago. I'm in NJ and it just seemed silly to order from a place literally across the country when I could get my order so much sooner from a shop on my side of the country. I saw recently that they...

    Taps sticking

They're "forward-sealing" which means there isn't liquid sitting in the faucet to dry out and get sticky.

    Commercial Beer Yeast Harvest List

Unless you're looking for the beard yeast, just buying Rogue Pacman is easier (tho obviously less fun): http://morebeer.com/products/yeast-liquid-wyeast-pacman-1764.html

Opinions on yeast and water profile for Biere de Garde?

Hey just came back to the site after awhile away and noticed this thread is alive again! To answer the previous question, yes I did use the yeast and it was one of the most-talked-about beers I've made in 5 years of homebrewing. I'll have to dig out my recipe and post it, but mine came out a...

AHA Demographics - 2/3rds have been brewing since 2005?

So after their recent survey, among other stats, the AHA says that of those surveyed, two-thirds of them started brewing after 2005. That seems like a lot...why do you think this is...

    Hurricane Ale?

Back online finally. What a week. During the storm there was very little rain (so I couldn't collect any water) but some of the strongest winds I've ever seen. Trees and power lines down everywhere.
