Rookie mistake...Airloc went dry. Still good?

I brewed my first Brett IPA about 3 1/2 months ago, just before I had should surgery. I knew it was going to be in the carboy a long time due to my lifting restrictions, I used Brett yeast(my first time) and aged it til now. Well, like a dumb ass...I totally forgot about the airloc. Yep, it...

    Obergäriges Bock

Love bock, but can't lager? The right obergäriges(top fermenting) yeast strain can still get you a VERY tasty bock without the ability to lager. I have made this beer a few times now, both by method of decoction mash and by using specialty malts. Although they appear to be 2 different recipes...

    What's in your yeast wallet?

Well, after a couple years of brewing and learning how to wash and freeze yeast, I have been building up a nice little inventory of my favorite yeast strains. I thought maybe I could get a little thread going where people could post what they have kept and what they like about the strains...

    BIY store

Well, I managed to complete my first transaction with Joe at BIY in Marion. I have to say.....REALLY good service!:rockin: He special ordered some Weyermanns rye malt for me, and also a vial of White labs 644 brett yeast. I really have to recommend this shop. It is out of my way, and it's not...

    Gelatin in primary?

Has anyone ever tried it? Personally, if someone isn't harvesting the yeast, I don't see why it wouldn't be ok. But thought I would ask if someone else has done it first.

Facebook site for pellet grillers and homebrewers

For anyone interested, I am trying to get a site on facebook going for homebrewers and pellet grillers alike. The intent of this page is to learn, teach, share information, personal experience, user reviews, techniques, recipes, post pictures, rave about the food/brew you just created and to...

Anyone ever order from "The Yeast Bay"?

I was thinking about ordering a couple vials of yeast, as I am looking at "Vermont Ale" and "Funky town" to do a couple of IPA's. Just wondering if anyone has ordered from them, and how the quality of the yeast was. Recommendations or substitutes for the strains I am looking at?

A big "thank you" to Yooper for her oatmeal stout recipe, for which served as a base recipe to start from. After a few brews, adjustments, a few more brews and more adjustments.....I feel it's PERFECT!!!! I actually have people willing to pay me $$$ to brew this for them! LOTS of chew, nice...

    Roasted coconut for flavoring sucks!!!

Okay, sometimes you get good info on the net, sometimes not. I read a few threads in this forum on using roasted unsweetened coconut in beer for a coconut flavor addition. Well, I tried it. I toasted 1 lb. of coconut and put it in my secondary for 2 weeks for my "Lemon coconut cream-ale". Just...

    My 1st infection...hoo-rah. :(

It's official...my 1st infection....it's a "gusher". I noticed it this morning going to move my carboy in place so I could bottle tonight. It looks like the beer in the carboy is already carbonated in the carboy... small air bubbles making their way to the service. It's been in there for 4...

    Carbonation in carboy?

I'm getting ready to bottle a Belgian dubbel I made...been in the carboy for 4 weeks. When I moved it this morning, I noticed air bubbles in the carboy clinging to the side and rising to the top. I haven't noticed this in my past brews. It was acting like a carbonated beer. Any thoughts?

    National brew day....who's brewing?

Not to steel thunder from another thread. Just wondering who's brewing and what are you doing Saturday? I'm bringing a buddy over and doing a "show someone how to brew" day as well. Doing an IPA recipe I threw together. Mosiac, caliente, calypso and citra...all in one brew!

    Belgian Roggenbier

I am quickly becoming a huge fan of rye beers, and this one ranks right up there with the best beers I have tasted. It's a blend of styles...kindof' a Belgian ale, mixed with a Roggenbier, mixed with a Pale ale. The result was a sweet, full bodied beer that is SUPER easy to drink. The...
