    co2 filling in chicago

Joe, there is an Airgas store in West Chicago that you can get beer gas at. I think the street it's on is Washington, by rt. 38. Across from "THE CRUSHER"

where are you preordering your rhizomes?

I just ordered 2 Willmette, 2 Cascade and a Mt. Hood from Midwest Brewing Supplies. They were cool enough to send me a free catalog, so I figured I should send some business their way.

http://www.airgas.com/ I'm not sure of the prices, though. I'm a driver at one of their fill plants and I just get the tank filled... perks.

    wort chiller, kettle mod question

Thanks for the replies, I have always been hyper sensitive about removing the lid once it comes off the burner. You've obviously had good success with not using a lid to cool, or just leaving it open a bit without any contaminent issues so I'll give that a try.

    wort chiller, kettle mod question

I just bought a wort chiller today. Yea! No more bringing in buckets of snow in from outside! I was going to buy some tubing and make one myself, but when I checked the price on 25ft. of copper tubing, it was real close to the $65 for a pre-fabbed one. A book I had said that for $15 and some...

    Dang my Ethics

I feel your pain.. I deliver gas to a few beverage distributors, and there are piles of those cornies just laying around, almost glowing like a mound of treasure in a pirate movie. The thought does enter your mind. Just like you though, I can't get passed the dreaming stage.

    Online Investment Sites

Why would you say to avoid etrade? because they are on shakey ground? I have noticed that their stock is way down, but if they went under would that be a big deal if you had investments through them? I mean if they went under, you would still have your shares of the stock that you hold, right?

    Fermentation temp

I always like the questions that are considered newbie questions. Those are the ones I most often check out. Alot of them, such as this one, are questions I never really think to ask, but are great for info. p.s. I'm not saying anyone was giving him a hard time.

    only 48 bottles from 5 gallon batch=problem?

That's good news, thanks. My book said to have 60 bottles ready. I'm glad that you get about the same amount. I didn't want to have to handle all the bottles with safety glasses on. The RDWHAHB is great until someone gets a shard of jagged glass in the eye.

    only 48 bottles from 5 gallon batch=problem?

Well, I was expecting to get around 60 bottles worth out of my 5 gallon batch of bitter, but I only filled 47.5 bottles. Perhaps I didn't measure the 5 gallon mark on the carboy properly. How many do you usually get from 5 gallons, and should I be concerned about the ratio of 3/4 cup corn sugar...

    Samuel Adams Winter Lager

When I have to get beer at the store, I usually get the Sam Adams. Sure there are better brews in the 6 pack area, that I am tempted to get, I usually walk around the area conteplating a bit, but it is really hard to pass up the $10.99 12pk of Sam's when I need empty bottles, and I have yet to...

    Job Satisfaction-with Survey

I voted that it is o.k. I drive a liquid nitrogen tanker truck around Chicago, night shift, for a compressed gas company. It can be fun at times, but it can get kind of routine at times also. I do get some good stories to tell at home about some of the characters I see at that time of night. One...

    5 or 6 1/2 gallon for fermenting?

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it was beneficial to get rid of the initial krausen or trub. I thought that it may contribute to off flavors or hangover contributing resins. Is it still neccesary to use a blowoff hose when using the 6.5? or will the airlock suffice?

    5 or 6 1/2 gallon for fermenting?

For fermenting which is better? the 5 gallon which will blow off more of the hop resins and exess yeast during the start of fermentation? or the 6 1/2 gallon which will leave more in the carboy? or does it matter? I am just getting back into beer brewing after a long break, but have accumulated...
