    Yeast starter blowout

So I'm making this yeast starter right... 32 oz water to 6 oz. DME started into a 64 oz. growler. No stir plate, just simple agitation. The plan was to pitch this beast into an IPA the next day. Everything went fine of course until the next morning when I went out to discover a travesty strewn...

Whats the biggest bonehead mistake you've made while brewing?

Last week my buddy and I were brewing a batch of our IPA. Our plan was to bottle our Imperial Red on the same day. Amidst the entire process, we of course became rather hungry. Being that we were outside I figured that I would just fire up the grill and barbecue a few brats and burgers. So I...

    12's versus 22's

So my buddy and I recently bottled an all grain batch that we screwed up a little bit. We figured hey, let's just see what happens with it. The interesting part? The 12 oz bottles came out fine while the 22s were very weak just like we expected. What happened?

    Hybrid BIAB method

Does anyone else use this method. It seems a little unorthodox but has been working decently. 8 gal brew kettle 5 gal igloo mash tun 28" brew bag I heat up the sparge water in the kettle and throw the grain bag inside of the mash tun like a liner. Dump the grain bill in the bag, then start...

    Plastic spoon/measurement tool

I think I want to file down my stirring spoon to mark water levels in my boiling kettle for quick referencing. If I file the plastic away it's probably going to increase risk of infection once it becomes coarse. Any other thoughts?

    Give this a looksee?

I need some advice from the experienced guys here... I brewed a partial grain batch of an Imperial Red about a month or so back and it turned out beautifully. My LHBS tweaked the original recipe to make it into a partial grain recipe considering i didn't quite have the equipment for all...

    Ibrewmaster questions

Does anyone else use this app? I'm finding that its somewhat useless. The timers are just standard stopwatch timers and saving your own recipes seem to be just as simple as being written down on paper. I was looking for more calculator type advantages. Is there a way to find mash and spathe...

    Imperial Red question

Hey guys. So stoked about this forum! I'm learning tons! Here's my question: I brewed a partial grain batch of an Imperial Red a few weeks ago. After four days of fermentation, the process slowed down and I began to take readings. I tasted the fermented wort on the first day and it was great...
