Will a little warmer temps hurt?

Yes, warmer temps will hurt. If it gets up to 78 degrees ambient, your wort could be 8-10 degrees higher than that. This will stress out the yeast and cause quite a few off flavors that can make it almost undrinkable sometimes. Do yourself a favor and just get a big tupperware container (the...

Getting ready to brew... have 1 question and requesting opinions

+1 on the swamp cooler. It's really easy. You can either go out and buy a big tupperware container (the kind you'd pack clothes in), or like me, i just had one sitting around. My first couple brews I didn't regulate the fermentation temp and they were almost undrinkable. almost. It's as easy as...

    Orange blossom honey

I just brewed a Red recently that called for 1 lb of honey at flameout. Being that my wife and I both love Orange Blossom, we decided to use that. The flavor is definitely noticeable in the finished product. It added a whole new kind of flavor to the Irish Red that I'm used to. I bought the...

How cold was it in the kitchen?? I say leave it alone for another 5 days or so and then take a gravity reading and see what you got.

I'm headed out to Honolulu this upcoming weekend and I'm thinking I'm going to find myself with quite a bit of down time and would appreciate some suggestions on great places to go have some great brews (places that might not be as well known as other places, ie. the yardhouse, everybody know...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

In the fermenter. So excited about this one. Has anyone done this one with Orange Blossom honey? I'm curious to see if it adds anything to the flavor profile, good or bad. I've been wanting to do an Irish Red and this looked like a perfect place to start. The post boil sample looked amazing...

    Session ipa

I used what I had on hand as far as high alpha acid bittering hops. They were left over from previous recipes and I ended up doing FWH with those vice boiling. Was just trying something new out with I had. I'm sure any other decent bittering hop would work fine as well.

Dunno if this was posted yet but its crazy.

I just realized why I can never get anything done at work. Clicking on this link and reading the story, which was pretty awesome by the way, led to clicking the top story link on the left for the article about public masturbation being legal in sweden, which subsequently led to reading the...

HomeBrewTalk Scavenger Hunt - Take 2!

Crap! I just found this and it's already been done in less than two hours. I think I like the insanity inducing scramble from the first contest better. Yes, it was quite frustrating, but then it got pretty entertaining to just sit back and watch :-)
