    Has this Honey gone bad??

I just noticed we have about 80 oz, close to 5lbs of Clover Honey sitting in our pantry. About 1/3 of the bottom is somewhat solid now. Not sure how long it has been in there. Would you still make mead with this, by just putting it in the microwave to make it liquid again? Or do you think...

Any cheap/reasonable prices on 240V 30Amp plugs and outlets online?

I just went to Lowes to price out some plugs and outlets for 3 prong 240V 30A, and it was quite pricy. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good online retailer for that stuff.

Using a potentiometer with 120V for HLT?

I eventually will be going to 240V, but I already have a bunch of 120V 20A GFI outlets in my garage. I currently have a 4500W 240V heating element that I bought, to install into my Keggle. Just for a quick and cheap way to get this thing working, could I just hook up a switch and...

Going electric for my new Keggle, will this work

I currently have a Keggle that I converter for my BK, using propane. I will be getting another Keggle soon, that I plan on making into a HLT. I was thinking I would slowly switch to Electric at some point, so figured this would be a good place to start. Here are the basic parts I was...

Michigan 15 gallon food grade barrel with Lid

I am selling a 15 gallon food grade barrel. This would be perfect for grain store, or home brewing. You could ferment beer, wine, cider, etc in this for home brewing. It is made of Food Grade plastic, and would be perfect for 10 - 11 gallon batches. This was clean when I got it, and then I...

Plastic or SS for my 15 gallon fermenter?

Recently I just bought a 15 gallon food grade drum from an auction. I am going to convert this into a 15 gallon fermenter for my 11 gallon batches. I plan on installing an airlock on top, and then a valve towards the bottom. I see the spiedel fermenters come with plastic valves. I'm...

    Making a starter for Cider

So after reading the latest issue of Zymurgy, I'm going to take a stab at using WLP002 English Ale with a 5.5 gallon batch of cider. I plan on taking a fresh yeast pack of this, and making a 2L starter for 24 - 30 hours. I will then pour this into 4 pint jars, and then put them in the...

Anyone use Bronco Round Trash Can?

I was looking at buying a 10 gallon Brute Trash Can to ferment in. I came across these as well at Home Depot, they say they are NSF listed for standard 21 (thermoplastic refuse containers) and standard 2 (food contact and clean ability), both containers and optional lids. So far about $20, I...

Batch sparging for 11 gallons question

I am adjusting my 5.5 gallon recipe in Beersmith to a 11 gallon recipe. It is calling for about 11 gallons for Mash In. For the batch sparge it is calling for 2 sparges, 3.6 gallons each. Is there a benefit to this, or should I just do 1 with 7.2 gallons? Also, will I be pushing my luck...

    Freezer not getting cold

I just picked up a 10CUFT Freezer the other day from a couple that "said" it was working fine, and they didn't need it anymore. I plugged it in for a few hours, and it doesn't seem to be getting cold, but the Embraco PW 4.5 A compressor I touched, and it was pretty hot. Any ideas?

    Aging Red Wine question

I have made about 3 batches of white wine so far, and have made my first Red Wine Pino Noir. The question I have is with aging. My kit recommends aging this for 3 months in a carboy, then bottling, then aging again for a minimum 3 months. Is there any benefit to aging in a carboy vs wine...

    Quick Kegging / Carbonating question

Ok, I just finally kegged my very first beer. I was given a tank that was about 20% full. I went ahead and cleaned the pin lock, all the parts, sanitized them, replaced the seals, sanitized the keg, then filled it. I then set the psi around 5 psi, and purged it about 10 times or so, to purge...

White wine question, going into terciary

I have some pino grisio going, and some pino noir, so I'm out of carboys. I need to transfer my pino grisio one last time for final clear. What would you guys do, transfer the pino grisio into a bottling bucket, clean out the carboy, then put it back in? Or just leave it in the current...

I made a oatmeal stout quite a few months ago. This time around, I want to make a double choc oatmeal stout with this recipe. I was going to add 4oz of Dark Chocolate with 15 min left in the boil and then nibs in secondary. Does anyone have a yield % for different chocolates. I'm not to...

I have a question for you guys. I didn't have any hops available, when my primary fermentation was done. It sat in primary for 10 days, and has been in secondary in a carboy for 7 days now. Have any of you guys thrown a few ounces of hops in the carboy at this point, and let it go for another...
