    Kraussen drop

So I brewed the northern brewer pliny clone 2 weeks ago. It seems to me the kraussen hasn't dropped but it almost looks like it could have and the white part on top could just be a residue or stain. I can't tell any suggestions?

    Dry Hopping

Hi- I brewed this Northern Brewer Pliny clone a week and a half ago, krausen has still not dropped. I pitched about a packet and a half of 1056. Tried to pitch 2 packets but some yeast leaked from the top of the fermentor due to a ton of foam. Anyways what I am trying to determine is...

    Infection?

I brewed this porter on 8/7, transferred it to secondary on 8/24. I just checked it for the first time in a few weeks and found these legs appearing. I'm thinking this is an infection. Is it? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Belgian Golden with FG of 1.000

I brewed a Belgian Golden Ale from a Brewers Best extract kit. It sat in a primary for 7 weeks. Bottled it and measured a FG of 1.000, even with temp correction. Tasted great. Is a FG of 1.000 possible?

    Infection?

I've had this Belgian golden in a primary for about 7 weeks. I see these little clusters of bubbles on the surface. Does this look like an infection? There is a bit of light reflection on the bottom left. Thanks!

    Oxiclean question

I used this regular Oxiclean instead of the Oxiclean FREE to clean my better bottle. Is that okay?

When to transfer to Secondary - Belgian Golden Ale

I have a Belgian Golden Ale that has been sitting in a primary for almost 3 weeks. I plan to transfer it to a secondary soon. Should I take 3 days of readings prior to the 3 week mark? (OR) Should I take 1 reading on the day of the 3 week mark and if it falls in the FG range on my recipe...

    Dry hopping

Just brewed my 3rd extract kit, a brewer's best APA kit. I thought everything went smoothly until I took my OG, measured 1.046 (instructions had a range of 1.051-1.055) I was thinking that dry hopping might help the situation and give this brew a bit more depth. Do I just let it sit in the...

    Squeezing Hop Spider

I will be doing an extract brew with a hop spider I just made. Is it necessary to squeeze the hop bag to release the wort from the bag and hops prior to cooling the wort?

Too much water added to carboy

Today was my second brew. Brewed a Belgian Golden Ale. I thought I had a perfect brew until I just checked up on my carboy and noticed that I filled it up past the 5 gallon mark by about 3/4 of an inch. Don't know how that happened. Is my batch ruined?

    Brewer's Best Belgian Golden Ale

I bought a Brewer's Best Belgian Golden Ale. This will be my second brew. I plan to transfer to a secondary after 5-7 days. How long should it stay in the secondary? I read that Belgian Ales get better over time, does this happen while in secondary or while bottle conditioning?

Copper Immersion Wort Chiller and Starsan

Just bought a Copper Immersion Wort Chiller and was wondering if it is ok to sanitize it in a 5 gallon bucket of starsan a few minutes before chilling the wort. I have heard about boiling it during the last 15 minutes of the boil but that is not an option because I will be using a hop spider in...

    Brewers Best Belgian Trippel

I am thinking of doing a Brewers Best Belgian Trippel for my second brew. How long should I plan on fermenting it? Is it okay to ferment it strictly in a primary fermenter and not move it to a secondary?

Fermenting in a 6 Gallon Better Bottle

Hey! Just about to brew my second batch. Can I ferment a 5 gallon batch of brew in a 6 gallon better bottle? I don't plan to switch to a secondary. All fermentation will be done in the 6 gallon better bottle. Thanks!

5 gallon to 2.5 gallon extract brewing

I am new to brewing. I have done a 5 gallon batch with a Brewer's Best IPA kit, waiting to bottle it in 1.5 weeks. I am not ready to make the move to all-grain but want to explore the idea of doing 2.5 gallon extract batches in a 3 gallon carboy. I've got a few questions: Is it possible...

    Hop Spider Bags

I am getting ready to brew my second batch of 5 gallon home brew from an extract kit. I am planning to make a stainless steel hop spider that I read about in another thread on this board. I am wondering if the product in the link below would be sufficient for my hop spider? I am not doing any...

    Fermenting Temperature

Just did my first brew earlier today (finished at 4:30 pm), an IPA. It's sitting in a glass fermenter in my basement. One problem, the kit said that the fermenter should sit at a temperature of approx. 64-72 degrees. At 11 pm the temperature read 61 degrees. It was sitting on a concrete floor so...

    Sanitation Bucket Scratches

I am getting ready to brew my first batch. I was reading some other posts about scratches in buckets and how they pose threats for contamination in batches. Are scratches in buckets full of starsan sanitation solution OK? Or are people speaking about scratches in fermentation and bottling...
