    Grainfather!!

I can't explain why pushing that top plate down to the level of the grain makes a difference but it sure has for me. One batch it may have been an inch or two above the grain bed.....50% efficiency. I pushed the plate down in the next batch, 72% It's the damnedest thing. When I did BIAB in...

    Grainfather!!

Igobru.com or ebay seller igobru32, but he bumped his price back up to 889 just a day ago! On his site it was 739, but I used the slightly higher ebay sale to have both the paypal and ebay buyer protections. I think he has a Grainfather up for auction still that started out at 99 cents. He...

    Grainfather!!

I pulled the trigger on one of these (745 new, great deal) and it'll be here Thursday! Been brewing for 27 years on all kinds of systems but I've been gradually simplifying everything, this seems like it could be the last step in that process. I currently do a 5500 watt EBIAB with no chill...

Couldn't stop with just labels, I branded everything.

HA! Well we did talk about getting matching calf tats, but you have to stop sometime. The label was made in 1988 by a 16 year old kid who drew it out on a piece of paper in 10 minutes. He's an illustrator at Pixar now. We wouldn't change it for anything.

It's official starting my own brewing business!

OK, I know it's a year later, but I loved this thread. Read it from start to finish and I really admire your dreams. Business start ups are business start ups regardless of the industry, the vast majority of start ups on a shoe string budget fail or never start to begin with so this thread...

Show me your diy vent hood.

Mine's just coned up galvanized steel that's spray painted with copper colored rustoleum. It's connected to an exhaust fan that's probably too large for the application but I don't have a drip of condensation on brew day that's for sure. [/IMG]

    E-BIAB Brewery resurrection

A couple years ago our brewery had the worst disaster short of a fire...sewer back up leaving behind 3 inches of wall to wall poo. It was so discouraging that we stopped brewing for the longest time only getting back into it recently using a friends brewery. After brewing several batches of...

Anyone rememer the Sir Cardinal Puff drinking game?

I hadn't thought of that game in 25 years. Now I'm going to have to look up how to be a Pope!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a Faux Urquell using pilsner malt, hallertau and dry hopping with saaz. Yeast is Papazian's hybrid Cry Havoc fermented at the lower end of the ale temp range and mashed at 149 for some crispness. Should be a nice lawnmower beer in May.

    priming sugar

I use 5 oz. On bottling day I boil it up in a bit of water and then cover and let it cool. By the time I'm ready to bottle it's cool enough to pour into the bottling bucket. I then rack the beer out of the carboy on top of the sugar water and commence bottling.

    The Walking dead

I haven't read the entire thread, just the last few pages, so this might have already been discussed, but am I the only one who wouldn't care a bit if Carl became a walker's kids happy meal? That character and the child actor just get on my nerves.

"Stupid Starsan Tricks" or why you shouldn't fear the foam...

I'm sending this from the iPhone so hopefully the pic shows up. I love the star san snake. Mine coils up and around the hose like a boa. You cant see it in the pic, but sitting at the bottom of the carboy is my stirbar. I had one of those slow motion "noooooooooo" moments shortly before...

    Blonde Ale Bombshell Blonde Ale

I'm going to brew this tonight, but skip the 1/2 pound of wheat and bump up the carapils and Vienna by a .25 pound each. I'll be using Papazian's Cry Havoc hybrid yeast at ale temps on the cool side with some dry hopped saaz. Mashing at 150-149 for a bit of crispness. Going for a faux...
