Your experience and input on weekend Yeast options, please.

Thanks @Franktalk. So in your experience the kvieks finish a bit less soft than other traditional ale yeasts? Interesting you hold the pressure fermentation the same as traditional lager yeast schedule. I just thought about it, maybe I'll split them up and see which one I prefer or if I can...

Your experience and input on weekend Yeast options, please.

Long time homebrewer here, back in the U.S. from an overseas move. Did a little bit of home brewing there, but just didn't brew much. Back in the US of A and I have caught the bug again. I've searched the forums, and there is a good amount of stories and experience to draw from, but if you...

Fill corny keg in San Diego

Hey guys. Just moved to San Diego, tons of awesome breweries. What local breweries fill corny kegs, your personal homebrewing kegs? Did this at the dry dock in Denver, looking for the option here as well.

CPVC manifold, slots on top or bottom?

Is the manifold coming apart typically a problem? BTW I did a test with my new build just to see how much water it would pull out. It went well below where the middle 90 was, that pulls it out of the cooler. Pretty much to the very bottom of the cooler with only about I'd guess a couple/few...

CPVC manifold, slots on top or bottom?

Easy day! Fun project, hope I get some better efficiencies.

CPVC manifold, slots on top or bottom?

Thanks guys! Any thoughts on angling the manifold so it lays on the bottom of the tun. I think it can be accomplished with an extra T and 90 degree elbow.

CPVC manifold, slots on top or bottom?

Searched and found little on this topic. Sage advice would be appreciated. Moving from a steel braid to a cpvc manifold in my mash tun. No particular reason, just bored and curious about how the two will stack up as far as efficiency. Should I cut the slots on the bottom or top of the...

    Micro brewery turnaround time

Hey Guys, Just wanted to see if anyone out there knows how microbreweries get such a quick turnaround time. What I mean by turnaround time is the time it takes from brew day to the day they begin serving it. I was talking to a brewmaster at a microbrewery a few months back and he said it...

    Should I buy this chiller??

A got a Visa gift card for 100. Should I get this counterflow wort chiller?? http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/brewing-equipment/wort-chillers/counterflow-chillers/shirron-plate-chiller.html I have a cooper immersion chiller I can use in tandem with the counterflow chiller. It takes...

Tell me that my beer is not completely ruined (I know it is..)

Very interesting!! Did you at least pitch the yeast?? I'm very curious on how this will turn out. Honestly, my feeling is that it might be o.k. You brought it to a boil, and added only a gallon to the mix. It may, just may, be o.k. Here's hoping it will. Either way keep us posted.

Hops in wort for O.G. measurement

Compared to the projected O.G. Didn't know hop debris does not effect gravity. Thanks guys.

Hops in wort for O.G. measurement

I made an IPA over the weekend and had a moderate hop content, about 3 ounces. When I did the O.G. measurement there was a bit of I'm assuming hop debris (from hop pellets) when I did the reading. The measurement was made after I transferred and sealed the primary. I usually pour a little...

    How long for a heffe??

I know golden rule is let it age (within reason), but my experience with heffewiezen beers is that often they are best a little younger than other beers. I just transfered 10 gallons from primary to secondary, and plan on letting it sit for about a week in secondary. Then my plan is to go to...

    Primary for over 2 months?

I bailed on the plan. I saw in by Brewer's Companion that a soapy taste may occur. This is on off shoot of dead yeast primarily. The dead yeast create this off flavor and there is no removing it, not even time. If I were a millionaire I would spend all day testing subjects such as this!

    Primary for over 2 months?

I'm going to go ahead with it!! I'll post my results when I get back. Not really worried about it since I have extra hops I need to use and two beers waiting for me that I know will be bueno. This third beer will be the beer to either prove or disprove various theories about leaving in the...

    Primary for over 2 months?

I've got a little extra time before I go on a two month trip and was considering brewing a beer, but won't be here to put it in secondary. I've got a bad habit of kegging beers only after two weeks, so this two month thing is really good for me. I've got two good beers in secondary that will...

Leave for a couple months, can I leave in secondary?

I'm going away on business for 2 months. I was wondering if I would be hurting my beer by leaving it in the secondary carboy for that long. I'd get it in there the day before and it wouldn't be touched for 2 whole months. I know there might be an issue with diacetyls, but I thought that was...

    Did I create oxidation?

I searched on oxidation, and found lots of good stuff. Nothing really nailed my topic so..... I was wondering how much splashing or bubbles from the auto-siphon would create oxidation? When I racked to a secondary, after 8 days in the primary, I was getting near the end and gave a couple...
