    I'm tired of losing a gallon of beer during fermentation!

    I may be new here, but the only common denominator I see is a carboy that is only 1 gallon larger then your brew. If a carboy is a must for you, get a larger one.

    I haven't but I also haven't been out looking in a while. Is it bottled and keg or just one or the other?

    I took the wort from the kettle to primary, then topped off. Then pass the wort from primary to bottling bucket back to primary back to bottling bucket back to primary (both sanitized), take sample then pitch. :mug:

    Am I correct to say you would still need it to calculate the alcohol content of the finished beer? I was sure to take it on my second brew for this reason, I was off from my target OG by .001. It'll be in the primary for another week or two, then I may rack some of it on to coffee and see...

    Probably about an hour and 20 minutes. I'm about 45mins north of the most northern part of Philadelphia.

    Ice bath on the first one, no wort chiller. I remember it chilling down to about 80 pretty quickly, maybe about 20 minutes. I topped off with 1gallon of almost frozen spring water which bought it down to pitching temperatures right away. I just tasted my first un-finished bottle tonight...
