What beer/homebrew blogs/magazines do you read?

The sub reddit r/homebrewing is a pretty active resource I like.

A question of faulty bungs and airlocks.

I have a 23 liter batch of ale in primary fermentation right now and I noticed a bit of a problem. For 2 days it wouldn't bubble, then I realized I was using a hack job bung and my airlock was way over filled. When I say hack job I mean a solid medium bung with a very crude hole poked into it...

Question about Coopers Real Ale kit

Well, I ended up more or less doing it as instructed. Rather than doing 20 liters in the demijohn and 2 liters in the pot to make the wort I did 18/4 so the wort would be thinner and less likely to caramelize and burn. Would have been great if my pot wasn't too small and the wort didn't boil...

Question about Coopers Real Ale kit

So my first two brews were all grain one gallon kits, one turned out "interestingly" and the other is still aging but I don't have high hopes for it. At the suggestion of my LHBS I picked up a Coopers Real Ale extract kit to try and start my learning curve back up again. When I bought the...

    Wood Chips

I just was struck by a few questions regarding wood chips this morning. First, I've got a dubbel that I've moved from primary fermentation to another growler for secondary fermentation. Since I haven't added any sugars to it that is technically aging, right? Well I've seen a number of...

    Bundle of beginners questions

I'm pretty sure this will be my last 1 gallon batch. Good to know I can sanitize and drop the hydrometer right in there.

    Wood Chips

That sounds like a great idea. When I used wood chips in a Dubbel I'm fermenting I soaked them in whiskey overnight and added them to the boil. I'm not sure if you'd need the whole week for the chips to take the flavor.

    What are you drinking now?

BNL Imperial Chocolate Stout ... it's like super smooth chocolate sauce with 10% alcohol. https://untappd.s3.amazonaws.com/photo/2012_11_24/35dd3cbb6611426b15788b196aa211d5_320x320.jpg

That is correct Jon. A hydrometer is going to be on my list of goodies to pick up. Hopefully my home brew shop is open for boxing day.

    Bundle of beginners questions

There is a pretty good looking home brew shop within 20 km of my house and another on my route home from work. I'm putting together a shopping list of things to pick up on my next stop. I figured with all the honey clinging to the measuring spoon I'd have put less in than the required 3 tbsp...

    Bundle of beginners questions

I wish I could be specific with the ingredients, but it was a premade mix. All I can say with certainty is that it's made with Columbus and Cascade hops. I'm not sure what yeast or what kinds of barley I was using. This is the kit...

    Bundle of beginners questions

Thanks a lot for the advice guys. I also was able to try my beer last night. It wasn't swamp water, though it looked like I dredged it out of a swamp with a bucket. It was drinkable and didn't have any really off flavors. But it was ridiculously over carbonated, supposedly by adding too...

Here are some pictures of my grandfathers equipment that I have available to me. http://i.imgur.com/26oJzh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/jcpknh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZVVIIh.jpg Some of the equipment is pretty old and well used, so I'm thinking wine remnants would be permanently imbedded in them...

    What are you drinking now?

Trafalgar cognac aged porter, Mill st. Cobblestone Stout and Innis and Gunn oak aged spice rum finished ale. The porter was unusually light tasting and I had a hard time picking up the influences of the cognac cask. The cobblestone stout was a great coffee-chocolate taste, but I think I liked...

    Bundle of beginners questions

What I have that's mine is pretty simple. It's just a bare bones starter kit. Click the details tab under the video. http://brooklynbrewshop.com/beer-making-kits/everyday-ipa-1-gal-kit As for my grandfathers stuff, well he's old school and I'll have to take some pictures of his wine set up.

What I meant with the swamp water comment was saliva contamination spoiling the beer while it matured in the bottles.

    Bundle of beginners questions

So I've got my first brew bottled and reaching maturity and my second brew fermenting right now. I probably should have stepped forward sooner with my beginners questions, but I guess now's better than never. The two brews I've made so far are both 1 gallon kits from Brooklyn Brew Shop. The...

    How did you find us?

I had brewed my first 1 gallon kit and started combing through the iPhone app store looking for anything that could feed me with brewing knowledge I started craving. I've been lurking around the last month, slowly easing my way into the community.
