I would recommend the latest compilation of The Complete Joy of Homebrewing by Charlie Papazian and the follow up to it, The Homebrewers Companion. The latter get into brewing a bit deeper.

I agree. Throw that treadmill motor on a grain mill!

    First Time Kegging Question

The reason not to carb at that pressure longer than 36 hrs is over carbonation. You can easily add more carb, but getting rid of extra carbonation is a PITA.

    CO2 Using a C-Keg

Ok. Lets try this again. 2-3 weeks to ferment your beer in a primary. No need to rack to a secondary. Then it's time to bottle or keg. If I bottle, it sits in the bottles for 4 weeks minimum. ( 2 weeks to carb, 2 weeks to condition). If I keg it , it goes on gas to carb for 2 weeks. The kegged...

    Upgraded. Goodbye Mr Beer

I started with a MrBeer kit. It introduced me to brewing and I actually made some pretty good beers with it using the HME's with additions. I've since moved on to AG 5 gal batches. But I still use the MrBeer fermentor for smaller batches to try out new recipes. It's just a smaller fermentor...

    CO2 Using a C-Keg

Sorry. I meant I eliminate the secondary fermentation caused by naturally carbonating. Even though I'm letting it slow carb for 2 weeks, it's also conditioning during that time. If I naturally carb in a bottle, I wait a minimum of 4 weeks before trying a bottle. 2 weeks to carb, 2 weeks to...

    CO2 Using a C-Keg

Basically you rack into the corny after fermentation is complete. You can use the corny as a secondary by purging the head space with co2 and let it sit at room temp for a couple of weeks. I don't do that. I leave my beer in the the fermentor for 2-3 weeks, rack to the keg, refrigerate and set...

    Screw it..Im moving up!

Congrats on the partial mash! Sounds like you had fun. The LBK is a great little fermentor that can be used for all techniques of brewing. I still do small AG batches in mine to test out recipes. Good luck and keep using the LBK as a yeast playground!

New to all-grain. Is Blichmann best?

Blinchman is the best. But you pay for it. I own a megapot and love it! It boils off a little extra, but that can be adjusted in the calculations. For the quality and price they can't be beat! If my money was unlimited, I would go that route. But for the price there are better options IMO.

    Getting a mill for Christmas

From what I understand, they are a small outfit. If you have issues, send them an email. Let them know in that email that you are a home brewer. That's the only way they warranty. If you own a LHBS, they don't honor the lifetime warranty. It's only for home brewers, not for commercial use...

For the money I like the Barley Crusher. I use one and it works great!

    Mr Beer

I started with MrBeer and you can make great beer with it. I recommend adding some DME to the stock kits. But I've done some really good beers by ordering from there advanced recipes. Some great info can be obtained about brewing with the LBK from the forum linked on their site. I haven't...

    We tasted our first batch...

Are you taking hydrometer readings to insure fermentation is done? Sorry, didn't realize this was an older thread.

    First time brewer...

I would recommend doing this straight up. It's a good beer as is. Adding all the extra adjuncts will require a lot of extra conditioning. Think about waiting 12 weeks to try it. It will take that too condition and blend. The vanilla probably won't work really well with this style. If you...

I recommend that every home brewer attend a HBC meeting. If you love brewing and drinking great beer as much as I do, you'll really enjoy it! Take a few bottles of your favorite homebrew and enjoy the club members beers too. If anything you will get some honest critiques of your brew and some...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

I've got an American Amber, Bavarian Hefeweizen and a Rasberry Wheat in fermentors. I'm hoping to do a RyePA tommorow and and a Vanilla Porter this weekend. That would give me 25 gallons at one time which is the most I've ever had fermenting at once.

I've been lurking on this site for quite sometime. I finally decided to register and introduce myself. My name's Dave and I've only been brewing for about 10 months. I received a MrBeer kit for Christmas last year and brewed a few HME batches from MrBeer and started making my own recipes in...
