    Stop using Irish Moss!!!

According to a lawsuit filed today against Jillian Michaels, one of the ingredients in her weight loss supplements, Irish Moss powder, "causes gastrointestinal ulcers" and is "so toxic that it is the gel commonly applied to aircraft wings to dissolve ice"... I'm not buying it, the story that...

Moving on from Mr. Beer Help

For a bit of a different perspective on this, I'll throw my 2¢ in and say that I think you should just go ahead and make the Mr. Beer kit in the Mr. Beer set. It certainly can't hurt to get a bit more practice in before you take it to the next level, and even if you don't care too much for IPA...

Coming back to the fold, and ...

Finally bottled this IPA today. It spent a while in the primary. FG came in at 1.010, which was right around the 1.009 I was shooting for. Bottling was uneventful. Had to sample the 1/2 cup or so that was left in the bottling bucket, and even with the priming sugar in there it was quite hoppy...

    First Brew Weekend

I wouldn't worry too much about the gravity, as extract brews really need pretty vigorous stirring to get the wort all blended. Sounds like you had a good first brew, congrats!

about to start all grain brewing

I like my braid just fine. I'm also happy with the 5 gal. cooler, as long as the grain bill is no larger than 13-14 pounds. It's pretty cramped in there at that point, and stirring the mash properly can be a pain. I keep saying I'm going to get a larger cooler one of these days, but I just...

    Why do you homebrew?

Short answer= Because I can. Long explanation= I brew because I enjoy learning things, and experiencing things, and I wanted to learn by more than just reading, but by doing. I like beer. I wanted to be able to know how to make my own GOOD beer, just like I like being able to do my own brakes...

    might have a problem?

A sudden change in temp can cause the yeast to "pause". They'll pick back up and be off and running soon.

    Hi from Alley Bammer

6 Row is a type of Barley. Welcome aboard, and keep reading all you can, and if your friend makes good beer then you need to have him on hand when you make your first brew! You'll be miles ahead of most brewers if you've got an experienced person to help you by your side when you start making...

Is this fryer setup good for full boil/allgrain?

Mmm, Cajun brew, sounds good to me! I wouldn't think the SS pot would have any probs with carrying over tastes from its last contents. If it were seasoned cast iron it would be an issue. That looks like a sweet setup to me.

i have to take a year off

As said before, thank you for your service! Having just got back to brewing, following over a year off (due to kids/family obligations), I have to say that you won't forget how to brew. Just because you can't brew doesn't mean you can't research it, so maybe it's time to pick up some of the...

Coming back to the fold, and ...

Following a loooong hiatus, I finally got to brew today!!! I was supposed to be throwing this batch together yesterday, but after sleeping in, and bottling up my Barolo and the mead I started back in Xmas '07, I just didn't have it in me to stay up till after 1 AM making beer, so it waited...

My Drill won't work my new Barley Crusher

My corded B&D works fine on my BC. I would also recommend doing a double check on the gap, regardless of what BC said it was set to by the factory. I did two brews with the factory setting and was getting around 70% eff., but when I finally took the time to get out my feeler gauges and set it...

Coming back to the fold, and ...

So, I've been out of the homebrew game for quite a while. I have been itching to make some beer for some time now, but with a son on the Autistic spectrum and another who really demanded some attention, making beer fell to the wayside for the last year plus. Two weeks and a couple days ago...

    Goats Milk vs. Cow Milk

My oldest son had a sensitivity/allergy to cow's milk last year and we had to remove all cow's dairy products from his diet. We tried soy, almond and even hemp milk products, but he hated all of them. He's only 4, and he knows what he likes. Anyways, after consulting with his Dr. we were told...
