    eHerm Control System for Geeks?

I am planning out my eHerms build now. One of the topics I have been chewing on is whether or not to simply purchase some very basic PID / thermocouple controllers and use them for my controls (Electric Brewery), or to develop a system using a data acquisition device such as those available from...

    Fermenter

I just purchased a FastFerment 7.9 gal conical. Anyone else have any experience with temperature control in regards to this fermenter? I am considering building a plywood stand and using a dorm fridge / freezer but the conical is a bit on the tall side. Thoughts?

    5 or 10 gallon?

I am in the planning phase for a new eHerms system build in my basement. I have been an AG brewer for several years using propane outside. My question is should I take this chance to build out a 10 gallon system or build the eHerms at 5 gallons? I have several existing pots I could use for...

    Boil Off Question

Ok so I did an AG brew yesterday. While I was chilling the wort I tapped my hydrometer on the counter and broke yet another one. I missed my sparge temp and had to add extra water to hit it. Which meant I had to boil off a significant amount. I did this without really increasing the boil time...

    Too much water

I converted a partial I have brewed several times to an AG. I misremembered the weight of grains I purchased and as a consequence added too much water to my mash. I went ahead and finished my mash and batch sparged. When I took my hydro reading pre-boil it was lower than I expected (1.32 I was...

    Refractometer vs. Hydrometer

My hydrometers are frustrating me. I have a difficult time making accurate readings with my aging eyes. I also seem to break them rather often. With that in mind I am considering switching to a refractometer. Anyone out there have any thoughts, suggestions or advice?
