Has anyone had a chance to try Danstar's Belle Saison yeast?

I'm wondering how this yeast behaves, tastes and whatnot? Rick

Question for those who do first wort hop additions.

Do you generally use the same amount of bittering hops as you would at say 60min? What seems to work best as far as late additions go? Do you just use your normal late additions like 15 and flame out for example? TIA Rick

    Inexpensive BIAB bags!

These may not be the answer for everyone, but I thought I give you guys a heads up on these. These are 5 gallon paint strainer bags that I bought off Amazon for a dollar a pop plus shipping. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007P6WMIK/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 They are perfect for my 8...

Is there a cascade shortage or something?

Admittedly I didn't shop around but when I placed my order today at NB I couldn't get 1oz packages of cascade, I had to buy a full pound. Not a big deal but it will probably influence my next few brews. Hmmm..... might have to brew up an IPA. :D Rick

Anyone know of a source for long stem thermometers?

Dial or digital would work with a stem 18 - 20 inches long. Thanks Rick:tank:

    Jeepers that's yucky!

OMG that's just horrible, I'm pretty sure I'll have to pour this out. :o Damned kid at the store talked me into buying some Traquair House Ale and I hate it! I'll probably never try a Scottish Ale again, using this as a guide, their ales are as atrocious as their whiskeys. Damn...

Does this BIAB recipe/procedure for ordinary bitter make sense?

Okay, so I'm wanting to try my first all grain beer and I'm wanting to use the BIAB method to start. I'd like to end up with 5.5 gallons and figured I'd need 7.5 gallons total of brew water to accomplish this. I'm thinking along the lines of a 90 min steep at 155 degrees in 5.5 gallons of...

I've noticed Northern Brewer changed their British Bitter recipe.

I brewed a batch of this a couple 3 months ago and really liked it so I ordered another kit and cooked it up yesterday. While going through the kits ingredients to make sure everything was in order I noticed the LME was Maris Otter, which makes sense but somehow seemed odd. Sure enough after I...

Well shoot, that didn't last very long.

:cross: Well, I've only got two 500ml bottles left of my British Bitter. Since it's a low gravity session beer, I had no problems enjoying it almost nightly. :rockin: I liked it well enough to order another kit from NB, it's just so drinkable. I bottled a batch of Irish Red last night...

Any franchise QB's coming out this year?

As a lowly Chiefs fan this is about all I care about right now, besides available GM's and coaching staffs. Anyway, who's the best QB prospect in the draft this year? Rick:o

Oh wow, it's good! (just had my first home brew)

:ban: Hot Damn! Put a bottle of my British Bitter in the fridge yesterday to see how the carbonating was doing. It had been in the bottle for two weeks today so I was curious. I had no idea what to expect so I slowly twisted the cap off over the sink and heard the lovely and familiar sound...

Got my Bitters bottled and the Irish Red is in the fermenter.

:ban: Bottled my British Bitters on Friday. I got 32 500ml bottles out of the batch. Then Saturday morning I brewed a batch of Irish Red, using the Midwest extract kit. Pretty cool to see the pipeline getting started! :cross: I have another fermenter and a Lawnmower Ale kit...

What makes Sam Adams taste the way it does?

I ask because I don't like the way Sam Adams tastes, so I'd like to avoid whatever it is. Is it the hops they use? TIA Rick:mug:

Should I move this to a warmer location?

Okay, as I mentioned the other day I brewed a batch of Northern Brewers, British Bitter. The kit came with Danstar windsor ale yeast. The instructions stated to pitch the yeast when the wort was 78 degrees or cooler, I pitched at 76 degrees. When reading the instructions from Northern Brewer...

    First brew in the fementer.

Brewed up NB's British bitters. Everything went well I think, but, the cork on my carboy wont go down and seal like I'd hoped. Is it supposed to just sit on top and not go down into the neck of the carboy? :drunk: Rick

Hello / newb question on sanitizers.

Howdy folks. I've been lurking here for a few months and thought I introduce myself and ask a simple question or two if I may. The name is Rick from central Mizzou. :mug: Now my question, is Crosby & Baker's B-Brite acceptable for final sanitation? I ordered a starter kit off Amazon from...
