Yeah, I only have 3 of the old batch. I could try them side-by-side, but I'd be DQing myself from BOS if the old batch is better since I'd only have 2 bottles left. Let's face it, though... BOS is a LONG shot. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

The 2014 NHC First Round - Results/Speculation Thread

Hey guys, I need some input on what to do for the 2nd round. Here’s my dilemma: I brewed my Bohemian Pilsener that advanced in Mid-December. It was ready to drink around February 1. The bottles for the NHC and the 2nd local comp were filled with a BeerGun in March, just before the NHC...

At this point, I would consider it lost. They were all mailed on Friday, April 25. Maybe the AHA keeps a scanned copy?

Got mine yesterday, too. For my 3 entries, the two national judges tended to be the ones who took the time to write commentary. The three certified judges mostly just used the checkboxes (totally fine, it's the NHC, it's not necessarily the place for feedback). I had one non-BJCP judge who...

I understand all that - my point was that if there was no mini-BOS for the category, which could be plausible due to the low number of entries, then the 1st place score must have been ridiculous since 2nd was a 45.5. If there was a mini-BOS, then obviously this is not necessarily the case.

I'm tempted to message the guy who came in first in our category to ask what he scored - I'm not sure if 12 total entries is even enough for a mini-BOS. If there wasn't one, then his score must have been ridiculous.

Holy crap... My BoPils got a 45.5. Looks like I might be submitting bottles from the original batch and just keeping the re-brewed batch for personal consumption.

Nada. The last update was that they'd "try" to get the scoresheets mailed by today. However, the AHA competition site says: "The links for the downloadable PDF certificates and letters will go live by April 22nd. The links will be found on your Info and Entries page just above the entry table."...

Yep, I'm sure all about organization. Nashville probably has a big stack of unorganized score sheets that they're dreading collating, stuffing into envelopes, addressing, and mailing, whereas KC probably had an addressed, alphabetized stack of envelopes ready for every entrant that they sorted...

Update on Nashville results/score sheets EDIT: you beat me to it. Still sucks that KC can have their score sheets back within a few days and we have to wait a month, but what can ya do.

I got there by googling "NHC Kansas City 2014" and clicking the 4th search result. I think you have to be logged in to the competition software. It's obviously some sort of glitch or back door. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Yeah, few categories are missing from the Nashville results, and a couple only have 2nd and 3rd place entries listed. It's incomplete at best.

Hard to say, since I bottled up the last of the keg in February and set it all aside for various competitions. I only have three bottles left for the second round. It could be at its peak now, for all I know.

Speaking of which, would you guys bother re-brewing a pilsner? I set a few bottles aside just in case it advanced. I brewed it in December, though. I'd just go ahead and do it without question if I didn't have to decoct :-/

Oddly enough, when I google "NHC Kansas City 2014" and click on the 4th link, it gives me Nashville's results. That was a nice little unexpected way of finding out that my BoPils advanced! Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

That was me. They kept giving us "we should have the scoresheets mailed this week!" For 4 weeks in a row. They also never uploaded the scores to the competition software, so if you didn't medal, you didn't have any idea how you did. They said they were just going to scan and email them to...
