    kegging noob; leak question

Hi folks, It was a seal thing; I changed out all the seals, pressure held nicely. I think I'm gold. Gonna rack my stout in there tomorrow, here's hoping there are no more surprises.

    kegging noob; leak question

What is an acceptable leak rate? Is there one? Or should a keg hold pressure indefinitely? I've got a used keg which seems to be losing pressure, ever so slightly. I've lost 2 psi in about 6 hours. I've submersed the keg in water, looking for holes but nothing showed up, so I'm fairly...

New to kegging: Corny kegs, gas line and OD Differences

Morning folks, I'm putting together my equipment for kegging, and I ran into a snag. I have a corny keg, and the gas line connector has a OD of 1/4". My regulator, however, has OD 3/8" product connector. Is this as simple as getting an inline coupler that changes diameter? If yes, will...

Possible blow off with blow off tube?

With that kit, I've found you really only need the blowoff tube for about 2-3 days. The beer is awesome, btw. I don't know if you've made this kit before, but that stout is amazing.

Possible blow off with blow off tube?

This wouldn't happen to be the imp stout from northern brewer, would it? That's a very...energetic kit. :D I've had the same problem with it, had to put the blow off reservoir in a pan to catch the drippings. As long as you've got movement, I think you'll be fine. The only thing I'd be...

    Bucket not sealed

You joke, but I've done exactly that. The intake also happens to be near the thermistat, and therefore the most temp controlled area of my house. I've had 4 batches going at once ( air locked of course ); that smell permeates the house. It's awesome.

Yeast pitch quantity and fermentation time

The beer: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/caribou-slobber-extract-kit.html yeast: Danstar Windsor Ale x2 ~66 degrees Didn't take a reading ( I know, I know, but with the extract kits I usually don't ). My question was more generic; I'm not really worried about this batch, but it...

Yeast pitch quantity and fermentation time

Does the amount of yeast you pitch modify the speed at which a batch ferments? I ask because I used two packets of yeast on my latest 5 gallon on Wednesday. Had wild fermentation yesterday ( had blowout tube installed, so nothing crazy happened ), but it's already dropping off significantly...

A better way to oxygenate wort

I haven't brewed all that much, but I have never had a problem with the "Shake the hell out of it" method. Plastic bucket or glass carboy. Extract or grain. Thick or thin wort. Maybe I'm missing something?

Ya, but I wanted to use the term "Venture round" and "Micro" together. Had my heart set on it.

It's essentially a kind of public micro-venture round. Usually the company in question offers future incentives for the capital ( preorders, free stuff, ect... ), but not always.

    Homebrewing and...children?

That is largely my perspective as well. My concern was that it would somehow put me in conflict with my state's laws, and jeopardize custody. However, it seems there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, and my paranoia of running afoul of some puritan values was unfounded. Which works...

    Homebrewing and...children?

I tend to agree, sharps. Nightshade's post prompted me to look up the laws in my state, turns out she CAN have a sip of the stuff we make, which really undermines my entire concern. Thanks folks, Nightshade in particular. However, I'd still like to hear what others have come up with.

    Homebrewing and...children?

The creation of alcohol, specifically. I should clarify; left to my own devices, with no external factors, I wouldn't see this as a problem or issue. She wants to learn, I would be more than willing to teach. I'm not afraid of alcohol, and I don't want to teach her it's some mystical thing...

    Homebrewing and...children?

My little one is getting older now and is starting to show an interest in what I'm doing when I brew a batch of beer. She already loves the primary fermentation process, with the bubbling air locks and blow back tubes, and now she's curious about the rest of the process. I tell her what I'm...

    Plastic Primary leaking air, question

Unfortunately, my schedule is unable to accommodate a 30 minute trip to the local brew shop this week ( I am out of town before they open, and won't get back until well after they close ). Putting aside the increased risk of contamination, think I'll have any problems if I move the batch from...

    Plastic Primary leaking air, question

So my plastic 5gal primary is leaking air around the seals. At this point, it's a minor amount. However, I have a mead batch in there, so I was wondering; I have two more nutrient additions that I'm going to do, which require opening it up and stirring. After the last addition, would it make...

First batch results: A tad sour

Maybe, but I don't know that I know the difference. Left open to the air, and I got it down to ~80 degrees in about 20 minutes via the ice bath. I was thinking on my next batch I am going to put the lid on the kettle while it cools. ( oh, hey, just noticed your location. Grew up there )

First batch results: A tad sour

I made a Wheat and Barley from extract kit, partial boil. Was in the fermenter for 2 weeks, bottle rested for at least a week. Final result was "not bad", but had a sour after taste to it. I don't feel that was intended in the kit, so does that indicate a possible infection? I am sure I...
