After a few days in the keg, I'm starting to get a taste and smell of chocolate so maybe a little more time will get t there Brett

Cacao Nibs in Secondary, Your technique

I don't "think" that. I was wondering if the smaller surface area ( dropping to the bottom of the cone) and only having 4-5" in contact with the beer above it vs putting into a secondary or bucket and having more surface contact spread across the entire bottom would make any difference. I had...

Cacao Nibs in Secondary, Your technique

I read through this thread and thats how I came up with the soaking in vodka plan. Some other methods make sense as well. one other note- in my case I was using a fast fermenter which shouldn't have made a difference other than maybe there was not as much beer to nibs contact, I did leave...

Cacao Nibs in Secondary, Your technique

I'm going to have to agree with your thoughts that perhaps the vodka had the opposite effect than I was hoping for. It sure smelled good while they were soaking though. I'll be looking at other suggestions and picking another one for the next time. lol Brett

Cacao Nibs in Secondary, Your technique

I'm interested in the replies to this as well. I brewed up an chocolate milk stout extract kit, I soaked nibs in vodka for 2 weeks and added them after 2 weeks in the fermenter and I'm disappointed with the lack of chocolate, No real aroma and no taste that I can pick up. I just kegged this...

    Chocolate Stout cocoa powder/lactose question

FG at 1.020. Used a fast fermenter for this batch. At week 2 I removed the collection ball and left valve closed thinking it would allow more contact with the nibs that I added at week 2. They had been soaking in Vanilla Vodka for 2 weeks. Week 3 I opened the valve and let the final settling...

    25mm shell casing tap handle

In the copper pipe reducer I used, I found some nuts that would fit the tap bolt and shaped them to fit within the copper reducer, They were tight enough that I don't need any epoxy or JB weld but that was in the original plan. I have those shells on a twin shift in my early bronco and...

    Chocolate Stout cocoa powder/lactose question

Thanks, I have them soaking in some vanilla vodka and we'll see what happens when I add them in a week. I have to say the smell of them soaking is mouthwatering. lol ! Brett

    Chocolate Stout cocoa powder/lactose question

Ive got the same kit in the fermenter now as well and am 1 week in, my plan is to either boil the nibs and add at week 2 or steep in vodka and add at week 2. I didn't add anything during the boil. How will you be adding your nibs? Whole, soaking or some other method? Brett

    Rustic Keezer Build

Don't be too hard on yourself. LOL. I have had 3 people that have seen it in person ask the same question. I thought it would be obvious but it doesn't seem to be. Brett

    Rustic Keezer Build

Tossed around a few ideas for tap handles and decided to distress some copper pipe I had leftover from a plumbing project and bought some fittings to finish them. To identify what beer each tap would draw from, I used some hinges painted in chalkboard paint. when open, it would list the...

Insulating Keezer Collar - Insulation Roll?

I have not insulated the collar on my latest keezer build but my current plan is to use the interlocking rubber mats and glue in place and then caulk the seams. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Groovy-Mats-Black-24-in-x-24-in-Comfortable-Mat-100-sq-ft-Case-GYCMBK/204714324 These things.. They come...

Need Advice for Keg Lid Leak

I just used a utility knife, it cuts pretty easily. BUT- There will be foam under it for insulation. It would probably be easier to just modify the area that is hitting. Getting all the foam out and rebuilding the lid was tedious, messy and not much fun at all. What I did on mine may be...

Need Advice for Keg Lid Leak

On a previous Keezer build, I did add a trim piece for decorative purposes and to match the trip around the top of the lid which you cant see in this picture. This was done as a part of the original build , glued, scraped, sanded and made as one unit , adding it after your collar is built I...

Need Advice for Keg Lid Leak

What does the interior lid look like? Is it only this one keg hitting it? I'd look at slightly modifying the inside lid before anything else. Cheap and easy and nobody will see it unless the keezer gets opened up. My freezer lid had all kinds of bumps and things formed into it which...

    Rustic Keezer Build

No worries at all about using some of the same styles!. All the tin I could find was galvanized roofing type of tin so that what I went with. You can get muratic acid at most hardware stores and it's commonly used for pools and cleaning grout etc when doing stone work. It comes in a quart I...

    Rustic Keezer Build

This is long.... Sorry Sold my 1st keezer several years ago when things got too busy to keep it stocked (5 Taps). Decided to get back into home brewing on a smaller scale and started to plan out a new keezer and keep it at 3 taps with one dedicated to a commercial beer for those that prefer...

    Shout Out to Grog Tag

Just wanted to thanks Grog Tag for a quality product and awesome communication. Created a beer logo and ordered some coasters and a tin sign before the 4th. They acknowledged the order and a day later emailed me letting me know that shipping would be slightly delayed due to the holiday...
