    Fermentation

It usually takes anywhere from 5 to 10 days depending on yeast strain, type of beer, etc. rule of thumb is a week. But just cause it stops bubbling doesn't mean it's done.

    Extract

That's what I thought, thanks. I'm on my 4th batch of Irish stout, and the first three were just a little off. Either too bitter, or not enough flavor. Same recipe every time, just variances in preparation. I just wanted to make sure cause the recipe called for boiling everything at once , which...

    Irish Stout

Got it. But do you still have to boil it before you use it for wort or mash?

Let it cool down, or run cool water around the outside of the pot in the sink to cool it faster. Don't forget to sterilize the jugs. Get...

    Irish Stout

You're up on me then, I haven't got that far into it yet. What's the purpose of R/O water? Is it better?

    What's r/o water?

    Irish Stout

Damn that sucks. So far every batch started at about 1.050 OG and ended up 1.013FG. The ales seem to typically be stronger. What kind of yeast did you use? What temp was your wort when you pitched? Something happened for sure...
