I have a recipe for home made root beer, a 1910 flischmann's recipe, that is brewing. I only found one place on the net that sold all of the roots. Fun, but locking a 1/4 cup of sugar in a bottle with yeast can be interesting.

I noticed my cider had the same issue, with the odour....but I let it ride and now all I smell is beautiful apple. So I think it is just a byproduct phase.

How would you suggest going about using apple then? I have had someones apple beer (or flavored) and it was the best thing, in fact it is why I started in this and then one of the local microbreweries makes one with apple essence in it and it is one of their most popular beers with...

At this point I am taking what I can find online! I have only really found one store that has a good well rounded selection from grains to malt to hops, etc.

My recipe calls for crystal malted grains and a website I found offers a large choice from 10L to 120L Breiss, what is the difference between "L" designations?

When choosing between pellets or whole leaf; do I have to give consideration for differing amounts? Meaning, if a recipe calls for two ounces of hops pellets and I want to use a whole leaf, do I still use two ounces or do I have to add more?

Can anyone point me to a couple of places I can buy grains and malt online? or point me to the place in the forum that has a list. I have only managed to find one online and there is none in the province I live in :(. Thanks a lot.
