    Plastic smell in Vittles Vault

Update: Left it outside for several days in 85-100 degree heat and it still smells after having the lid on overnight. I tried hot, but not boiling, water. Still there. Thinking I may just return it unless anybody else has any other suggestions.

They had that deal at Adventures in Homebrewing. Unfortunately it was a short-lived offer. Deal is over.

    Halfsies on some kegs?

Anybody in the Dayton, Ohio area interested in going in 50/50 on a deal for 5 gal ball lock kegs? 4 recon kegs for $179. Split the cost right down the middle for 2 each? I can't justify buying 4 but I could use a couple more. PM me if interested.

    Plastic smell in Vittles Vault

I am mostly worried that that whatever is causing the smell will affect the flavor and aroma of the grain.

    Plastic smell in Vittles Vault

Already tried that. It decreases slightly but is still too strong for me to store my grain in it.

    Plastic smell in Vittles Vault

I recently bought this to store grain. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002H3S5K/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 There is a plastic off-gassing smell in the container despite scrubbing the heck out of it. Anybody else have this problem? Did you find a solution? I'd hate to stash my grain...

Valve on bottom of boil kettle?

I've been considering adding a valve and false bottom to one of my boil kettles to make it easier to transfer wort to the fermenter and filter out leaf hops when i use them.. Other than having to use a stand with a hole in the center, is there any reason I couldn't put the valve on the bottom of...

    Yeast Harvesting: A Novel Approach?

I started brewing last September. When I made my first starter for my 2nd batch I thought of this, posted it on the forums asking if anybody else did it or if there was a reason not too and most of the replies were along the lines of, "why would you do that!?" Felt like a newbie doofus for...

    Stout Issues

I made an oatmeal stout and it was fairly tasty about 3 weeks after bottling. Shared them with friends and family and no complaints. Found an extra one in the back of the fridge 3 months after bottling, cracked it open and HOLY CRAP! It was the best stout I've ever tasted. I was so excited and...

    Rubbermaid mash tun!

If you have the 1.5 inch nipple, the only thing I could think of that might be causing your problem is if the threads on one end of the nipple is passing through the stock rubber grommet, but if you have it snugged up pretty tight, I doubt that would be the issue. It is possible your washers...

    Rubbermaid mash tun!

Wow. I have 1 on the inside and 5 on the outside of mine and it is relatively snug. Sure its tight? JB

    Rubbermaid mash tun!

The 3/8" nipple fits very snug through the rubber gasket that the stock spout ran through so I don't think you would be able to get a 1/2" nipple through it. Now mine does have a little play but not much and def not enough that it leaks. If I were you I would be worried that it is leaking into...
