2 liter oak barrels, whiskey optional

I just happened across this website. They are basically selling white whiskey and a 2L barrel to age it in. 2L sounds about perfect to me for oak aging some barleywine or an RIS. It doesn't look like the barrels are available for order yet, but I, for one, put my email on their mailing list for...

Saint Porter label needs something, but I don't know what

I usually try not to overdo my labels, but I sort of feel like this one is lacking in decoration. Any ideas? I was thinking a ribbon or something, but I don't know.

    Blichmann Hop Rocket

Has anyone seen this yet? I didn't see anything in a search. http://www.youtube.com/user/NorthernBrewerTV#p/search/0/FEO75CszMcI It is a Blichmann hopback/filter/randal. I haven't had much luck building my own hopback, too many leaks and clogging, but this looks awesome. Guess I know what...

    Which label looks best?

I can't decide on this label. Since the main hop is saphir, I wanted to go with a saphire-like theme. I was hoping to make the hop cone sort of glow with a blue hue. So here are the labels I came up with. Plain white White with gradient. Plain black Black with gradient.

I need a bottle of Spotted Cow!

So a poker friend of mine last night brought a bottle of Spotted Cow (not available in Colorado). I asked him if I could give it a try and he said sure. Well, after I had had a couple of drinks, he said that his sister brought it from Wisconsin for him and that was the only one he has. Even...

10 gal MLT with false bottom and ranco temperature controller

Time to let these go. I built my 15 gallon MLT a couple months ago and have dragged my feet on selling the old one. It is a 10 gallon igloo cooler with a ball valve and false bottom. I'm thinking it should be about $100. I probably have around $150 into it. I'd rather not ship it, but if you pay...

    Another set of labels

As I have mentioned before, I print these on magnets through mpix.com and then put them on the fridge behind the tap handle. So here's the latest set. Fairly simple label. Nothing too special about this one. Newest idea. I haven't even done the beer yet, but it will be a bourbon oak...

    Apollo IPA thoughts

I bought 4 ounces of Apollo hops on a whim. I considered a SMaSH, but I think I like a little more complexity in the malt bill for an IPA. So, anyone care to comment on the following? 11# pale malt 4# vienna 2.5# carastan .5# honey malt .1# chocolate apollo pellet hops - 18.9%AA .5oz...

    Which Label is Better?

Not sure which font I like better for the label? Anyone care to comment? Label A Label B

Thought I'd share a few more

These don't really go on bottles. I print them onto magnets at mpix.com and they sit right above the tap on the kegerator. This one is a cream stout with Thai tea added at the end of the boil. Traditionally, the Thai tea is mixed with evaporated milk and poured over regular tea or coffee...

    Good Rye Beer?

Since this is a style I am fairly unfamiliar with, I need some advice. I have brewing classic styles and there is a recipe in there for a rye that is about 40% rye malt. I don't see anything on this site that has quite so much. I'm a little hesitant to try it without a good example or critique...

Gaaah! The probe fell out of the freezer!

So, there I am thinking fermentation is going along nicely. I went to check and see how it was going Saturday night. I pop open the freezer and what do I see? Beer Ice everywhere. I'm guessing one of the kids got the temperature probe cord caught on their bike handlebars and pulled it out of the...

It's March. Time to brew up some Oktoberfest

Just thought I'd prod those of us along who like to do the Oktoberfests according to the traditional schedule. No need to do an Oktoberfast in the last 4 weeks before the festival if you get it going now.

    Hops brushes for GIMP

Seeing as how I can't draw for ****, I decided that I need a way to have GIMP draw some hops cones for me. I was hoping to find some readily available GIMP brushes out there in the interwebs, but I was unable to find any. So I made some. I found some pictures of various hop cones and paired them...

    Colorado Hombrewer of the Year?

I thought I read somewhere that there was a competition for Colorado Homebrewer of the Year, but I can't seem to locate it. I don't remember if I saw it here or on the AHA techtalk email. The gist of what I remember is that you get points for placing in competitions around the state and the...

    A few more tap lables

I don't bottle much, so I make magnets out of my labels and then put them above and behind the tap handles on my kegerator. This is EdWort's Pale Ale, but no one I hang out with knows who he is. I had a better one for an oaked old ale (Old Oak Tree), but that fell through and I used the...

    Brewery tour next summer

So this coming June is Mrs. uwjester and my 10th aniversary. We thought about a cruise in the Caribbean, but decided we didn't want to be on a boat in the middle of the ocean if we needed to get back to the kids for some reason. The missus suggested a brewery tour somewhere besides Colorado. I'm...

    New Batch of Tap Labels

Here's the last few I have done. I hardly ever bottle beer, so these labels go on magnets that I slap on the fridge above the tap handles. I wish I could take credit for drawing the sword, but that is one I found on the innertubes. Most of the beer names I come up with are Dune references...
