Shout out to Toms Brew Shop - Lakewood

I wanted to give a shout out to Tom's Brew shop in Lakewood. After switching jobs from Boulder to Denver I had to find a new brew shop. I tried Barley Haven - they have a great selection but are unreasonably spendy. $1.99 for 2-row is just ridiculous. Per the recommendation of one of my...

HaHa :D. Fyi - I called and they told me food grade . I stopped by today and asked again. They said not food grade but close enough (Not paint ball grade). $3.93 to fill up a 5lb tank.

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

FYI to anyone looking to purchase these pots. I have not had a good experience trying to get a refund for a damaged pot. The large pot came a big dent where the bottom was welded to the sides. The seller agreed to accept that pot back for a partial refund. I followed his return instructions...

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

Curious - did anyone else's pots arrived with deep scratches on the inside? I expected some minor scratching but two of my pots have scratches that appear pretty deep and black in color. Is this something BKF will clean up and I shouldn't worry about it? Seller says that is normal with their...

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

Just got mine. They were not packaged very well - tons of scratches and dents. The large pot does have a rather large dent along the bottom. I don't care about the scratches but the large dent concerns me. Aside from that the pots appear functional. Side construction seems sturdy enough...

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

Thanks for the feedback, Spellman. Looks like you have an electric setup with lots of fittings :D. I'm on propane so just have to make sure the bottom is supported. Pulling the trigger...

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

I've been looking at upgrading my kettle to a bigger size and am seriously considering pulling the trigger on this deal. Jarhill now has a set of 96/70/49 for $107 shipped. Prior to discovering this thread I was debating between the Concord stainless or a cheap but sturdy aluminum pot (debate...

Big Beers - Commercial Breweries and Aging?

I was at my local watering hole last night, Cannonball Creek, talking to the staff about their American Stout. Its 8.5% and won silver at the last GABF. Its fantastic with no lingering alcohol taste. I was surprised to find out they do not age it whatsoever. I'm curious, is there...

    Concord Stainless Kettle vs Keggle

Is this the same Concord pot? Seems like a great price for a 15 gal stainless.

Stock pot and turkey fryer diameter

Reviving an old thread! I have the same question. Have a turkey fryer kit with a "safety" ring around the pot with diameter 13.75". How large diameter of a pot do you need for it to be safe and stable? Last thing I want is to have 8 gallons of boiling wort slip and spill when I stir. :D

62QT Kettle on turkey fryer burner?

So, did you try it out? I have a similar burner - thinking of picking up a larger kettle, but don't want to have to buy a new burner.

    BIAB with thick mash (1.2qt/lb)?

Curious - what type of eff did you get with low thickness?

    BIAB with thick mash (1.2qt/lb)?

This may be part of it. I milled the grain at a new LHBS - i.e. different mill than normal. I was going to double-mill but they talked me out of it. I have double-milled in the past with great success (~78% Eff)...but most of the time I do a standard mill and still get 72%

    BIAB with thick mash (1.2qt/lb)?

Good info - thanks for the link. FYI - I borrowed a 10gal cooler and mashed 19.4 lbs of grain at a thickness of 1.7 qt/lb in my bag. For some reason only ended up with 58% efficiency following my mostly standard procedure. I was able to do no sparge and get the right volume (6 gal pre-boil)...

    DIY Beer Line Cleaner

The commercial cleaners are spendy, aren't they? :) Will need to think about this...but first thoughts are in agreement that its ok.

    DIY Beer Line Cleaner

Another question is if the container is food grade? I doubt it. Some info on HDPE#2: Buckets that are not food grade will out-gas and leach into the container, and whatever is in the container. HDPE #2 buckets that are not food grade will have been manufactured with a non-food-grade...

    DIY Beer Line Cleaner

This is a great idea! But I have a logistical question on using it. How do you keep the hot/warm PBW solution from getting cold sitting in the fridge? Are most people just running the hot PBW solution through with the fridge door open to prevent it from getting cold? Or, not caring if it...

    BIAB with thick mash (1.2qt/lb)?

Thanks for the suggestions. I may scale it down. I agree, better to scale it down than not hit my OG. I'm planning on aging for 6-9 months so want to get it right. :D I do have access to a cooler, so could try that as well.

    BIAB with thick mash (1.2qt/lb)?

Thinking I will mill the grain twice and then mash for an extra 30 min to compensate for any loss in eff.
