    Quantity/OG problems

Thanks for the advice :-) I originally started with kits then I did two extract brews and got hooked and moved directly to all grain lol so I'm still just finding my feet with it really I didn't squeeze my grain out I thought that the water in there was just an accepted loss to the process I...

Up Coming First AG Session - Questions/Clarification needed

Would I be right in thinking that taking a sample pre boil will be way off your expected OG ? So how do you determin what the gravity should be post mash but pre boil ? I have been having a problem with missing my expected OG.

    Quantity/OG problems

Have just attempted my fist couple of all grain batches. I decided to start small and just do one gallon batches (UK Gallon 4.5 liters) I have been using software called brew pal. The first batch my OG was about spot on the predicted but I was around a liter and a half short of my 4.5 liters...

    Mash temp thought

Oh and I apologize if I'm sounding like an idiot but I'm just trying to get my head round it properly :-)

    Mash temp thought

But would this work ? Or can you only get the alphas and the betas working efficiently to give plenty of ferment able sugar but also a good body to the beer ?

    Mash temp thought

Hi graham I have been looking in to this a little more and from what I have read and what has been posted the impression I get is as soon as the temp goes above the preferred temp of the beta (lower temp) they become inert and do not do their job so you have to start at a lower temp and let...

    Mash temp thought

Yeah but I was wondering if it could be done in reverse instead of warming it up start hight and let it slowly cool but it seems it cannot be done that way around.

    Mash temp thought

Earlier I was reading john palmers how to brew and was reading about how mash temp determines not only types of sugar that is created but the quantity. It was saying that lower mash temps create thicker wort with less fermentable sugar but this improves the body of the beer. I know that the...

    A little advice please

Thank you :-) is that all grain or extract ? Do you lose much when mashing ?

    A little advice please

I should probably add that this is for a partial mash as I already had the stuff in I will be using 330 grams of grain for the mash it just seems like a lot of water to loose for not much grain and a short boil.

    A little advice please

Here is what it's showing me would I be right in thinking I add the top up straight to my boil kettle after my mash ?

    A little advice please

Hi all i recently made the decision to more from kits to extract brewing and after one extract brew that went pretty well I decided to start thinking about all grain so bought a mash tun :-) I have some brewing software on my phone called brew pal which is telling me for a 7.6 liter batch I...

American Pale Ale 15 Minute Cascade Pale Ale

It is a good recipe for a beginner I did it as my first extract brew I would suggest brewing it as it is for the first time and judging it for yourself and playing around with it the second time round. I am going to brew this again but with half cascade and half Zythos hops :-)
