    First time brewing in years

I’m brewing an extract Summer Ale this afternoon. During the boil the recipe calls for Paradise seeds and lemon peel to be add in Muslin bags at varying times of the boil. When cooling it says to remove hop bags. Do I remove the paradise seeds and lemon peel bags too at that time?

    Winter Wheat Ale??

Need ideas... Beers for people who "don't like beer"

I find that talking to people about beer and brewing, there are many people who have limited their exposure to quality beer by "not liking beer" or "only liking Miller Lite." If someone told you that they would like to have their horizons expanded in the world of beer, but "only liked Miller...

    Original Gravity higher than expected

Brewed a White House Honey Ale extract kit from my LHBS. Targeted OG was 1.064 and I had an OG of 1.070 at a temp of approximately 58 F. Followed the directions, 5 gallon batch like the directions said... So WTF... I'm still new yet, so I'm always concerned when things don't come out how...

    Oktoberfest.. NAILED IT!

I'll post the recipe tomorrow. I used a California Lager yeast, so it has lager qualities. Stylistically, it is not perfect, but better than that, it's perfect for my liking!

    Anyone use Wyeast nutrient ?

It is an extract. Will trying it hurt? This is my second brew and second one to stall 1.020... what the heck am I doing or is this truly something out of my control???

    Anyone use Wyeast nutrient ?

Ever use this rejuvenate the yeast to bring down the Final Gravity? I'm stalled at 1.020 for a week.

    Gravity stalled

My last two brews (and first two ironically) have stalled at 1.020. This swirling you speak of, is it as simple at literally swirling the fermenter??? I'm assuming the goal is to wake up those damn yeast that fell asleep???

    Does volume affect gravity?

So, I made a Munton's Nut Brown Ale extract kit. Based on the instructions on the kit, it's for a 6 gallon batch. It indicates a starting gravity of 1.040 to 1.044 and a final of less than 1.012. I brewed a 5 gallon batch based on my homebrew store's instructions and had a starting gravity of...
