    campden in wort

I use campden to pretreat my water to remove chloromine. Recently I've been doing a partial brew method where I add ice at the end to get to the right volume and chill the beer. If I add campden to the wort at the same time I add the ice will it still remove/breakdown the chloromine? I am...

    iSpindel tilt 0.0

I have been using an ispindel for ~year and it has worked fine. Then after one brew and re-charge it just gets stuck with a blue light when I turn it on. When I reset it into interface mode I can see the tilt now shows 0.00. From other threads I've read this seems to be the problem, but I...

    Heat Resistant wiring

what is everyone using for heat resistant wiring? I'll have to temp sensors coming off the gas fired kettle/HLT and I'm worried about the heat coming up and around the pots.

Simple Pints - A Digital Taplist

I had been using Raspberry Pints ported over to my windows server for a while. Getting it installed was a hack job and the database calls never worked right. After upgrading my database and PHP, my Raspberry Pints install stopped working and a reinstall didn't work either (I was hoping that my...

    Dry hopping after cold storage

I made 10G of an IPA. My plan had been to dry hop the second keg when the first was almost gone to avoid having the aroma fade out over time. I ended up kegging the second keg, put a bit of head pressure on it, and now have it sitting in the kegerator (I needed the fermentation chamber for...

    Puree sitting at bottom

After reading around I threw 3lbs of mango Fruit puree directly into primary after fermentation was mostly complete. A few days later it looks like the mango has basically settled to the bottom. I haven't read or anybody rousing it during this conditioning time. So just let it sit or do...

    Yeast starter calculation

I'm looking to make a 22G lager. My thought was to make a 5G batch and use that slurry to repitch. When I use brewer's friend yeast calculator is shows that the 5G batch won't make enough yeast. This does not sound right to me. Thoughts?

    Connectors for control panel

I designing my own control panel to connect to some electric ball valves, float sensors, and b1820 one wire temp sensors. Any recommendations on connectors to use?

    Show me your Grant build

Show me your Grant build. I'm interested in hearing how you prevent underflow and overflow issues. As well as where you found parts?

    Inline 18B20 temp sensor

I have a few waterproof 18B20 temp sensors, but I'm failing too come up with any ideas how to add them Inline to the circulation tubing. I imagine using a T-connector with the probe in the top. Not sure how to add the probe and steel it up. Ideally it would be removable rather that...

    Cold crash barrel?

I'm done aging an imperial Baltic porter in a 5G whisky (it's been about 6 weeks) and wonder what to do next. I will be bottling. Prior to bottling, should I cold crash in the barrel, transfer to secondary and cold crash, or just jump straight to bottling?

Estimating SRM of two blended beers

I'm curious if there are any equations for estimating the SRM of two beers blended together? Is the scale linear? Can I take 3G of SRM 30 and 2G of SRM 20 and figure (3*30 + 2*20)/(3+2) = 26. Seems too simple.

    Another stalled high gravity beer

Sadly I'm making another post about a stalled high gravity beer. I reused a 6 week old San Diego super yeast strain into a 1.108 OG beer. It took about 3 days for fermentation to begin and I was getting super worried and then it took off. Airlock s popped and a mess everywhere until I setup a...

    Cold Steeping smoked malt

I'm making a large baltic porter that I'm placing to do a partygyle off of. For the partygyle of like to add some smoke to it. It seems that it would be really easy to come steep the smoked malt (not the peated kind) 24hrs before the brew day and then just add it to the last 15mins of the boil...

    Dry Hopping half empty keg

I have a beer that has lost its mojo. It is still good (not stale or anything) but the aroma has died off quite a bit. I'm thinking about adding an ounce of dry hops to the keg, but it is half empty. Any problems with doing this? Any suggestions for how to do it?

Herms coil touching bottom of kettle?

I'm starting to work on a herms design. My plan is to have a non dedicated herms HLT. Meaning I be transferring the recirculated wort through the top of the pot for both the intake and outtake. Right now I picture the intake going to the bottom of the kettle and have the outage going up and out...

    Magnesium chloride hexahydrate

I've been looking for a magnesium chloride salt addition and only seem to find magnesium chloride hexahydrate. Would this work? This seems like a good grade of it does. https://www.greenwaybiotech.com/products/magnesium-chloride-usp?variant=1557089473

Dextrose in Belgian Golden Strong Ale

I'm targeting a 1.083 OG for a Belgian golden strong using 16.5% dextrose (in addition to the grains). My question is since the OG is quite high would adding part (1/2) of the dextrose 3 days into fermentation be a good idea for this style of beer? I've heard of doing this for double and...

    Difference cause?

What could cause this difference? (see two photos) I brewed a 15g batch of a kölsch which was split into 3 carboys. I used a starter spilt three ways, all carboy where in the same temp controlled fermentation chamber. The cloudy beer has a sweet taste and is... Cloudy. The other is crisp, clear...
