    Intertap beer faucets

Sounds a lot like the M.O. of patent trolls in the tech industry.

    Intertap beer faucets

Not a big deal really, because they don't do local pickup :( It's literally 0.5 miles out of my way on my commute to/from work. Oh well, they still have good prices and really fast shipping for us west coasters.

    Homebrewing slump...

I'm in a slump right now as well. I took an entire month off when my son was born in October, and managed to brew once. I felt like that was a victory, because obviously having a baby (and a toddler, and a post partum wife) takes up a lot of time, and kills any sleep. But since that batch...

Mr Beer, 2 gallon barrels w/ starter kit... clearance at Target

Ferment in the barrel only. You still need to bottle or keg to carbonate and serve.

    First drain pour

I had one last year. Simple light ale with wheat then I racked on to puréed whole cranberries. Meant to take out the cranberries after 2 days but forgot about it for a month. It tastes like my grandmas drugstore perfume so I drain poured it.

If you're going up the 101 - stop at Firestone Walker in Paso Robles (north of San Luis Obispo).

    Upside Down CO2 Tank?

You can not. The regulator needs to receive CO2 in gaseous form, not liquid. When full, a CO2 tank has about 3/4 liquid, 1/4 gas - that gas sits at the top and feeds the regulator. Flipping it over would meant the gas bubble stays upright, and means liquid would go in to your regulator.

    Question for my California homebrewers

I use a counterflow chiller, and my first step is to run the water off in to a few buckets for cleaning purposes (about 10 gallons). Then I slow the flow rate of the water to much slower (about 1/3rd the rate), while measuring my output temp of the chilled wort, looking for about 85°. The...

    Stc-1000+

With ramping turned on it'll go from 50 to 40 progressively over the 10 day period (so 1 degree per day, 1/24th a degree per hour - not sure what resolution STC-1000+ works at, but I believe it's 0.1 degrees). With ramping turned off, it'll simply drop from 50 to 40 degrees when the setpoint...

My HB supply line is finally healthy! How about yours??

Mine fluctuates a lot. I'll get a few solid weekends where I can brew twice in a row, and build up the pipeline. Then with family and work commitments, I end up not brewing for ~2 months, and dry up that pipeline.

    Stc-1000+

Thanks! I purchased from the seller "City Digital" on June 10th and received a A400_P unit (which should be flashable, but I've not done it yet). This brings me up to 4 flashable units - covers my 3 fermentation mini fridges/freezer plus a spare for future use!

Nope. Checked the temp at various heights and it was within a half degree everywhere.

    Stc-1000+

So I used my stc-1000+ as a sous vide controller and it worked great! Held my crock pot at 130° F for a few hours and the result was some delicious ribeyes!

Suggestions for keeping BIAB bag off bottom?

An expandable/collapsable vegetable steamer basket is what I use to keep the bag off the bottom. Once in a while my mash temp drops a bit low and I like to add a touch of heat while stirring to bring it back in line, even with full volume mashes. I melted a hole in one of my bags before I did...

    Stc-1000+

Speaking of STC-1000+ with other things: Does the 99 °C maximum temperature still apply? I'd love to use one to control my electric meat smoker's electric heating element, trying to target temps around 225F/107C. Also, as anyone ever seen a sharp probe sensor for sticking in meat that would...

    Getting BIG Coconut Flavor

I did a coconut porter as well. I took 16oz of unsweetened coconut flakes, toasted them in a 300° oven for a few minutes until they just started to brown on the edges. Stirred them up a few times while they were toasting so they didn't burn and I got even toasting. Put them in a mesh bag...

    Stc-1000+

Thank you, Captain Obvious. I was asking not because they're impossible to find, but more on a hope that a national retailer might carry them (Home Depot, Walmart, Radio Shack, etc.) and I had simply missed them before - or that smithabusa would tell me that they're a bit difficult to find in...
