    Brew Day Disaster

Ouch, Is that NB's Dry Irish? I made one in Nov. that was excellent. A bit more hop bitterness in mine do to a no chill hop utilization miscalculation, but a lovely brew indeed. Hope the re-brew went well and the foot is ok. Cheers

    Cleaning bottles

A scoop in a sink full sounds reasonable, scrub that gunk off and bottle that delicious brew.

anyone done a brew in a bag

I'd do a one hour mash at a temp that suits the beer style, followed by one hour boil or 90 minutes for wheat. The water volume depends on your equipment loss and method of removing water from grain bag. I use the drip method, some will twist and squeeze the bag. I leave about .4 to .5 gal in...

When is a boil not just a boil

I use a nice rolling boil, but when using wheat I boil hotter and longer (90 min) to knock out more dms. Just a bit hotter though, nothing extreme. If you just pitched that yeast, rock the fermentation vessel, get that baby aerated and happy. I bet your brew will be great.

    First Big Brew Day

Doomed you are, sounds like my mr. beer story. What yeast are you using? That 75 degrees may be a tad high. The yeast will create heat during fermentation raising the temp and possibly causing off flavors. I'd personally put it some place cooler, maybe 68 if possible. You may be ok, just a...

    Newbie question

When brewing a kit, I am aiming to duplicate the intended beer mostly to test my own process. That being said, I do believe in creative brewing, and after tasting the finished brew I may wish to make a second batch for the purpose of experimentation. Hell, my friends and I can suffer thru...

    Hydrometer reading............

I must agree. Taste it as often as you can, get familiar with the smells and looks of the fermentation as well. Just keep your equipment sanitized, I use a wine thief and I love to observe my beer. I don't sweat the small testing losses, the knowledge to be gained is worth the loss. Keep...

is it possible i made low to non alcoholic beer?

I heard (on a pod cast) it was tough to make a great tasting, low alcohol beer, that you really have to be on your game to do so. Congrats, you either made a cool mistake or your tolerance is way up. Some days I can sniff a beer and get chatty, other days I can't seem to catch the buzz. Did...

When is a boil not just a boil

Did you have an equipment change? Any change in pre boil collection volume? If no to both, I would assume the boil ran hotter than last time causing the loss. Hop utilization and malt profile may be off a tad as well as color and original gravity, but I bet it still makes a great beer. If you...

    Cleaning bottles

Can you get at it with a bottle brush? What ratio oxy to water was used? I'd probably try hard to get that off first by rinsing and scrubbing, then do star san.

What's brewing this 4th of July?

It is my patriotic duty to make a good homebrew! I will be making a 5 gal Landlord clone shortly. It's a hot day in Southern New England, but I can't pass up this opportunity. Happy 4th, Happy brewing.

    My first mash tun build......

Looks great, how many qt. does that baby hold? I have a square Coleman 48qt. But I like the looks of yours.
