    lost some wort in boil

I am brewing a kit from a local brew store. I had the wort boil over a couple times and ended up loosing about a half gallon. I just transferred to my secondary and the beer seems to be progressing nicely. Should I adjust the amount of priming sugar ? It was pre measured for 5 Ga?

Planted rhizomes 3 weeks ago, no activity, should I worry?

I planted four rhizomes about three weeks ago. Two have sprouted leaves and the other have nothing. I saw the first sprout after about 8-9 days. My temps are the same as yours. I'm at 6400 ft in AZ white mountains.

I could use some advice on my resume

I would state that the reason I am leaving my current position is that I feel I am not being utilized to my full potential in my current position. Also that I need to be challenged more to achieve job satisfaction. Leaving to maximize personal growth is better that leaving because of a...

    Wort chiller

I'm thinking about getting a wort chiller from morebeer.com. Looking at the ones that cost around $60. Anybody have one of these or have a better place to get one?

    First brew possible infection

Ok... Think I know what went wrong. I opened a bottle today and I observed obvious over carbonation activity... As I rethink through my bottling process I remember being afraid of getting too much sediment in the bottling bucket. I think I may have left too much beer in the primary fermenter. I...

    First brew possible infection

Well, I think my first batch is officially a dud... Smells a little but vinegary almost like a cider. Definitely not like a beer I want to drink. It was a true brew all amber kit that I fermented for 16 days. It has been in the bottle for a week and a half. I just can't see the funky vinegar...

    Bitter back end

Come to think of it I did use a different yeast than what came in the kit. I used one pack of Safale us-05. Would that change FG?

    Bitter back end

No, i am not exactly sure fermentation had completely ceased. The instructions said to let ferment for seven days. I let it go for 16 days. I did not take consecutive readings though. All activity seemed to have ceased and the yeast had formed a layer on the bottom of the carboy. No bubbles in...

    Coffee question

Thanks for the tip. I think I am gonna try "dry nipping". In the secondary fermenter.

    Bitter back end

I just bottled my first batch and I tasted the beer that I checked the specific gravity with. It tastes pretty good up front but really bitter on the back end. Does bottle conditioning smooth out the bitterness? My kit was a true brew all malt amber kit. All DME and LME. No steeping grains and...

    Coffee question

Bought a double speedball stout kit from my local home brew store. The directions call for steeping a half pound of crushed coffee beans during the last 15 mins of the boil time. My question is if I wanted to add some flavored coffee in there would it hurt anything? I'm looking to get a little...

Not sure about my fermentation process.

I am brewing my first batch and I am not sure if my fermentation process is over . I bought a true brew all malt amber ale kit from my local brew store and put it into the fermenter 5 days ago. It has been churning pretty steady ever since. I thought that the activity in the Carboy would be...
