    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I tried my first BIAB today. I used Beersmith to calculate the water volumes. I was way off on the final wort. I did a 2 gallon, 60 minute test boil last night and I lost .75 gal. Beersmith calculated I needed 7.99 quarts. I probably ended up with 1.33 gallons. I'm guessing squeezing the bag...

Ratio: Good brews vs Bad brews

I'm just a beginner but I've dumped 3 out of 4 of my batches so far. 2 were due to some cheap tubing my LHBS sold me (made them taste like plastic) the other I just didn't like. The one I kept was drinkable but not amazing. Kegging 5th tonight, fingers crossed.

Just finished up brewing some all grain- Dry Dock Urca Vanilla Porter. Tried out some new equipment so it didn't go as smooth as I'd like. Only time will tell...

Need pond pump recomendations for use with Therminator

Hello brewers, I'm trying to figure out which pump to buy to circulate cold water through my Blichmann Therminator. I'm not really sure of the science behind flow rates, but I've read that a higher GPH flow, isn't necessarily optimal. 2 pumps I'm looking at in particular are: 92 GPH...

    Aftertaste in brews

I just pitched the Wyeast packet for the first batch, no starter. The second batch was dry, so I just re-hydrated and pitched, no starter for dry yeast. For the first batch I just poured the wort through a strainer for aeration (that's all my LHBS said to do). The second batch I used...

    Aftertaste in brews

Interesting... well I do keep the fermentation bucket in a tub of water with ice so I suppose this could be the case.

    Aftertaste in brews

First batch was bottled so I boiled priming sugar/water. Doesn't seem over-carbonated. Second batch was carb'd by the set and forget method. I think my fridge is somewhere around 38 deg. at 10psi (per chart I found floating around here)

    Aftertaste in brews

Also, I used iodophor for the first batch and starsan for the second batch. I aerated the second batch's wort with o2 before pitching.

    Aftertaste in brews

First batch was bottled (stout). Tasted at 3 weeks and 6 weeks at 70 degree conditioning, same aftertaste. Second batch was keg'd, and is about 2 weeks old in the fridge. I know stouts can take a few months to condition and the recommended minimum for keg condition is around 3 weeks but I...

    Aftertaste in brews

I've brewed 2 batches so far and I'm getting a almost plastic aftertaste and even a slight smell of the same caliber. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening to my brews. I've done some searches and they all point to water. I used bottled water for both brews and as far as I'm aware...
