    Brewery naming etiquette?

Trademark doesn't mean anything without establishing first use in commerce (that's the difference between a "TM" and an "R"). Even if you trademarked the name, if they beat you to the punch and can show that they were engaged in commerce while you were still holding on to an allowed trademark...

    Source for 500ml bottles?

Nope, I ended up using cappable 375's. Never could find a source.

    Wort Collected

The original post stated 5 gallons pre-boil. But in any case, volume is required to calculate potential gravity points. Otherwise, just pulling low volumes would make it appear that your efficiency was artificially high. From Beersmith: (potential_pts) = (grain_pts) * (weight lbs) /...

What would be so wrong about seeing winners' competition scores?

Generally speaking, that's correct, but it leads to a situation where a lower-scoring beer places higher than a higher-scoring beer even within the same category. That's usually cited as the reason for not publishing winning scores... I think they should be published, because of your last...

What would be so wrong about seeing winners' competition scores?

I have, and I have. Interesting comment, but not related to what I wrote. My comment actually stipulated that mini-BOS and BOS judging helps to keep scoring anomalies in check (since there's no way to justify point-level granularity in the scores). And I even said that that's perfectly...

What would be so wrong about seeing winners' competition scores?

This is the problem, where you switch from scoring beers against an idealized notion of style to judging on the basis of subjective goodness. The former can be judged somewhat objectively, but the latter can't.... So you get these situations where lower scoring beers win mini-BOS and BOS...

    Source for 500ml bottles?

16 Ounces is just under 500ml, and NB sells these: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/brewing/brewing-equipment/bottling/bottles/beer-bottles-16-oz.html But I think they'd look silly with wax. I like those ones from thebottlejarstore, but ordering from the UK is gonna make this a pricier...

    Source for 500ml bottles?

Hi All: I have a bourbon barrel-aged RIS that I'd love to put in 500ml bottles, capped, and waxed. Problem is, I can't find a good source for bottles. Does anyone have a source that'll sell them at the homebrew scale? cheers, -b

    Using REAL pumpkin in mash

Spices do not taste like pumpkin. If you were to say, "the flavor you normally associate with pumpkin is not really pumpkin, but rather the seasonings it is prepared with", then I suppose that could be the case for most folks. But in no way do spices produce "pumpkin" flavor. IMHO, a mix of...

    Calling Bergen County Home Brewers!

Hi! Apologies for the delay, I didn't see that there was a new post. The club has been going very well! We're still meeting at Dog & Cask on the first Tuesday of every month. Crowd is solid, with lots of great brewers. Meetings are fun, low-key, usually all about sharing and feedback. At...

    Calling Bergen County Home Brewers!

Hi folks! Apologies for the delay keeping this thread updated. We moved to a Google Group a while back for communications. Anyways, our next meeting is Tuesday, July 1st, 7:30pm @ The Dog and Cask (meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month. PM me here if you want to get in on the...

    Calling Bergen County Home Brewers!

I am diggin' on "NJ BREWZ", but could be too similar to NJHopz? I also like BC2 because you could get all nerdy wit' it like (BC)^2. Would make kickass hats. Since I am a bit too far into the Ommegang Game of Thrones red ale, the hat design is totally critical to me.

Question for fans of the obscure

45-50. For the regular green stuff... Some of the others variations can be a bit more. If you aren't familiar with it, you'll find it very distinctive. I use in an eye dropper like bitters. So unless you are going crazy, one bottle will last you some time.

    Calling Bergen County Home Brewers!

Hi everyone! So here's a question for the group: should we go to D&C next Tuesday and risk not trying homebrew? Or should we go somewhere else and deal with D&C the following week during IPMay? I'd suggest that if we want to guarantee a homebrew tasting, we could think about the Farmhouse...

In a way, yes... and interesting opportunity has presented itself and I want to see if it can work out. My days in Corporate America are very quickly coming to an end.

Hi folks: a little off-topic, but I have need of a small business attorney. Are any of you out there small business attorneys, or could you recommend any? Cheers, -Blake

    Weber Kettle Thread!

Another vote for the smokenator mentioned earlier in this thread. I sold my WSM and another box smoker after discovering that thing. If you follow the instructions to the letter, you can hold perfect smoking temps for 6-8 hours with almost no attention.

    Calling Bergen County Home Brewers!

Heya jcaddy! Keep paying attention to this thread and we'll announce the next location. I like the idea of the BYO place, and that is looking more likely. I know that Johnny has tried to contact them, and I reached out by phone and email both--no response. I think D&C should be more eager...

    Calling Bergen County Home Brewers!

I haven't been back in since our last meeting, so unless Johnny has been, there's no news. FWIW, I was looking into this for other purposes, and according to the NJ ABC Handbook: "CAN A CUSTOMER BRING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES INTO A LICENSED PREMISES? There is no regulation prohibiting this...
