i have that compleat meadmaker book and it is a great read. not too over the top and hard to understand but very in depth when it needs to be.

thank you for telling me to be patient, it's bubbling like a champ now! i guess i was just worried that it was stagnant or something, didn't want to fail on my first batch! i have it tucked safely away and will check its gravity in about a week and move it to the secondary fermenter. pretty excited!

It's o.g. was 1.124 and it is at 1.123 or so. So it hasn't really moved much at all... I also used one of those drill mixers on it today after I added the second nutrient pack. Is it possible that it is too heavy and I should add water? I don't want to do anything without asking you...
