    DIY Keezer Thermostat

A couple years ago I rolled my own keezer temp controller... just finished a new version of it and thought I'd share it here. I can't honestly recommend building your own to save money or time since there are several reasonably priced commercial controllers, but if you like hacking your own...

Read this before you buy from Kegkits.com

Count me as another casualty of kegkits.com - $100 order placed in Aug 2009 still not fulfilled. No refund, no answers to e-mails, no answer to phone calls, never picks up.

Oops! Left the cap on my auto-siphon & it worked even better

I had the same problem. I know everyone raves about it, but I think the version I got is just a POS.

    Extreme Beer Fest Boston, MA

We try to make the beeradvocate fests when we can - they are awesome, and I think I did order tickets for Saturday session 1. The extreme fest is my favorite of the lineup, but it has totally been worth the trip every time.

    Any HBT Bicyclists?

I ride cross country and uni. I stick to local trails on the MTB - but CT trails are some of the best - anywhere on the uni. I ride for fun. I have a Gary Fisher hardtail for trails and several unis - a custom trials rig, a freestyle uni, and a giraffe. An HBT bike jersey is a nifty idea.

Words you can't say when you're drunk

I can't say oxygen at all while drunk. Actually, I can barely say it while sober.

Maggots?! Mites!? What is in my cones?!

they look like hop aphids. that sucks - if it were earlier i'd say spray them off with a hose & then spray with neem or pepper+garlic, but if they are in the cones at this poing you're probably hosed.

    Tom Brady Injured!

Brady haters all seem to have this weird gay thing where they can't stop talking about him, even when he's a non factor. Weird. Just goes to show you how good he is - one twisted knee, and suddenly Buffalo has a chance to maybe lose yet another Super Bowl. I thought the Pats game was...

Why are mountain bikes so popular?

Bah. Two-wheeled contraptions are a waste of metal. A 36" unicycle is the only way to commute. Seriously, I think the reason is price. You can throw slicks on a mountain bike for a fraction of the cost of a road bike. You're not THAT much slower. With a set of 1" Conti slicks and stock...

    Connecticut Hops

I got a fair amount of Golding from this (second) year. We didn't bother to harvest last time. Here they are shortly before we broke out the foodsaver: P8250001 - My Photo Gallery P8250002 - My Photo Gallery I think if we prune next year we'll get a better yield.

    Wheat/Weisse/Hefeweizen recipe help

http://www.hbd.org/brewery/library/EstFormAW0696.html ...interesting bit about aeration severely inhibiting ester production. That would suggest that if you did use a hefe yeast, you should aerate heavily before pitching AND ferment at the low end of the temp range. You could also use a...

    Wheat/Weisse/Hefeweizen recipe help

Yikes, i forgot - a 15 minute rest at 100F is crucial to avoid a stuck mash. Throw in a couple handfuls of rice hulls to be safe. A thinner mash is OK, i.e a 3/2 ratio (quarts/lbs). I last used: 15-20 min @ 100F 15-20 min @ 120F ...then I did a double decoction. A basic sacch rest...
