Why am I not getting any head?

You know, when I pour my beer. What were you thinking? I bottled a batch of blonde ale 4 weeks ago and it's carbonated enough to drink but I think it needs to be more carbonated. I used a kit and I think it called for 3/4 cup of sugar for my five gallon batch. They are stored in the basement @...

Why does my beer look like with when I pour?

Whenever I pour a home brew I notice a lot of head on my beer. I've never noticed this with commercial beers, so why is this?

This is disgusting...is this an infection?

So I almost puked after looking at this. This has been sitting in the primary for 17 days. For the record this is the batch that I wrote about here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/why-should-i-stick-frustrating-hobby-344691/ I wasn't able to filter out my hops either.

Uhhh this isnt an infection, right?

So I am about to bottle this batch of blonde ale when I noticed some stuff floating on top. Please tell me this isn't infected? The picture is a little blurry because I took it through the carboy.

Why should I stick with this frustrating hobby?!

Today I attempted to brew my fourth batch ever. It was am imperial hefiwietsen or however you spell it.. Everything was going perfectly until I had to pour my wort into my brew bucket. I had my brew bucket filter on to filter out the hops. I've done this twice before and I've never had a...

    Three questions...

I just racked into a secondary, only because I wanted to free up my primary. Do I need to top up my carboy with water? How long does the beer stay good for once bottled? How long does a batch of star San last for? Thanks,

    Question about my FG reading....

I am trying to free up my primary so I can make another batch of beer while I have some free time. Because of this I need to rack my beer into a secondary (I know that secondarys are frowned upon). I was planing on doing this today, so I took a reading. The FG of my kit is 1.012 and it has been...

Never used liquid yeast, is there anything I need to know?

So I've only made three batches so far and I've only used dry yeast. For my next batch I'm going to be brewing an Imperial Hefewiezen. I decided to use 3056 to possibly enhance the banana and clove taste. Is there anything I need to know? I just smash the pack the day before and just leave it on...

Some questions from a terrible brewer...

Man, brewing can be hard! First I sliced my wrist on a sharp metal part of the wort chiller. Then when I went to use the wort chiller for the first time and it ended up leaking and water from the garden hose got into my wort! That sucks. So I had to abandon the leaky wort chiller and try to...

    Question about a wort chiller...

I've never used a wort chiller before and I'm about to start my boil. To sanitize the wort chiller I put it in the boil for the last 15 minutes, correct? Is there any thing else I should know? I rinsed it off really well. Thanks!

Anybody use bottled water instead of boiling the additional 2 gallons when brewing?

For my first two batches I made, the two additional gallons I had to add came straight from the tap. I've since realized that is supposed to be boiled. I don't really want to take the extra time to boil and then cool that extra water, so I was just wondering if anybody has any work arounds...

Is there a way to better filter the yeast out of the bottles?

I'm not really sure how to phrase this without going into to much detail, but I've noticed some mild stomach issues after drinking my home brew. I've never really noticed this before but the issues I've had are always the next morning. I've only noticed this issue recently. I'm guessing it's...

    A question about carbination...

So I don't mean to look a gift horse in the mouth but, I've made two batches of beer and both have been fully carbonated after about a week and a half after being bottled. Is that weird or should I just thank the beer gods? I thought it took about three weeks for carbonation? I should note that...

Should I let the priming sugar liquid cool before pouring it in the bottling bucket?

When I made my first batch I poured it in almost immediately into the bucket after the boil was complete and I noticed a plasticky after taste to the beer. I want to avoid that this time, I'm go easing I should wait until the mixture is completely cool? I put a lid on it as we speak, I hope the...

What the best way to filter dry hops out when going to bottle?

I plan on bottling my second batch ever tomorrow. I listened to everybody's advice on here and did not use a secondary. The beer is an IPA and I did add hops to it a week after it was put in the primary. I obviously want to strain the hops out. I was thinking of using a cloth strainer and then...

    Question about carbonation

So I just got done bottling my first batch of beer and I'm pretty excited about it. Although, I have to say, that was a hell of a lot of work! The beer had a lot of flavor and I think it will be great once it carbonates. The only question I have is will my beer not carbonate if I don t store it...

Questions on sanitizing and cleaning bottles.

I'm going to bootle my first batch of beer and I had a couple of questions about the bottles. A couple weeks ago I soaked my bottles in hot water and bee brite. This removed the labels and the visible crud inside the bottles. I then rinsed each of the bottles with water. I have a jet cleaner but...

Advice for someone who has to use a secondary

After reading this forum for a couple weeks I've come to realize that you don't necessarily need to use a secondary and I wasn't planing on doing it for 2nd batch. However, I've realized that I would like to brew another batch of beer right now, which obviously means I need to free up my...

Quick question about dry hopping and secondary fermentors

I'm am thinking of ditching my secondary fermentor and keep everything in the primary. My recipe calls for adding hops into my secondary, I assume that there is no issue just adding the hops into the primary instead? And do I just tear open the hops and pour them in?

A question about fermenting in a secondary

I'm working on my second batch of beer after I thought I might have ruined my first and I have some questions about fermenting in a secondary. From what I've read here it seems a lot of people don't even use a secondary. That being said, since I'm new to this I wanted to see for myself if the...
